Offer $10,000 Software Challenge to the
Email Industry
06/22/2005 01:51 AMFor years, SMTP server software was used to send and receive e-mail
communications. These older servers, usually freeware, have created
many delivery challenges. Most of the time, marketers, CEO’s and even
CMO’s are completely unaware of these issues. The owners of
ActivSoftware, in central New York, introduced a worldwide challenge
to prove their software system (http://www.activsoftware.com/xms) is
one of a kind in the email industry. [PRWEB Jun 19, 2005]

work (otherwise leave a comment in this entry). Thanks.
Microsoft Windows Server plans for 2005
Microsoft Windows Server plans for 2005
12/24/2004 12:55 PMFollowing the announcement that Microsoft lost the EU appeal
against removing Windows Media Player from it's Windows XP operating
system, what is Microsoft planning for 2005?
It's not yet clear whether work has begun on removing Windows Media
Player from XP but if work is planned to start in the New Year then
this could significantly delay Longhorn, again. Depending on how
Microsoft chose to remove Windows Media Player they may need to
recompile different sections of the operating system to ensure there
is no shell integration of WMP whatsoever. Changing an operating
system and ensuring it has hot fix compatibility may require an
external beta test to OEMs and partners. It's a big job and one that
will inevitably slow down Longhorn progress.
On a bright note 2005 is the year for Windows Server. Last week I sat
down with Mark Tennant (Windows Server Product Manager). Although we
joked about WinFS (which should be code-named
Hokey Pokey) and I fumed about
anywhere access being removed from
R2; it still seems that the Windows Server team have a lot of things
going on in 2005.
Perhaps most significantly in the first half of 2005 we'll see the
first Service Pack released. Taking a lot of security improvements
from XPSP2, it aims to deliver increased reliability, scalability,
security and performance. According to Mark
"From our internal
tests we’re seeing 20% more users for ERP business applications, 50%
more users per server for Terminal Services."
At around the same time we'll see the Windows Server x64 editions
available.
"Our approach here is to provide low-cost, high
volume 64-bit computing with our partners to a broad segment of the
market. Again we’re seeing some big performance improvements in some
of the traditional windows workloads (Web Servers, File and Print,
Terminal Services) as well as customers running their existing 32-bit
apps on the x64 platform."
In the second half of 2005 the team will release Windows Server 2003
"R2" and Windows Server 2003 Compute Cluster Edition.
"This will see us supporting high performance hardware and
related industry standards such as MPI-2 and RDMA over Ethernet and
Infiniband, as well as MPICH".
Windows Update Services is the highly anticipated and highly delayed
replacement to SUS (Software Update Services). Currently SUS is
lacking in terms of functionality but 2005 looks to be the year that
WUS will finally make its debut in the first half.
Keep your browser firmly on Neowin.net for the latest Windows Server
news in the new year. May I take this opportunity to wish everyone a
very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Dwarf Mail Server is an (E)SMTP, POP3, and IMAP4
mail server. It is suitable for users as a mail
server replacement and for developers as a
platform for customization and development.
Changes:
The MailStore implementation for the IMAP service
has been improved, optimizing simultaneous access
to mailboxes. It is now possible to map a single
user account to the namespace of other users. A
minor bug in the SMTP server initialization
routine has been fixed. The MailEvent API has
changed and now requires one additional argument
with the user name for creating a mail event.

Update for Windows Small Business Server
2003: KB 843539
07/03/2004 01:45 PMMicrosoft has identified two issues that occur after Service Pack 1
for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 is installed on Microsoft Windows
Small Business Server 2003. These issues are:
- When you log on to Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) or Microsoft
Outlook Mobile Access (OMA), you must include a domain name when you
enter a user name. For example, you must enter domain\username instead
of only username.
- The monitoring tools in Windows Small Business Server repeatedly
send a critical alert regarding store.exe consuming memory.
Installing this update resolves these issues in the following
manner:
- When you log on to OWA or OMA, you no longer need to include a
domain name when you enter a user name.
- The monitoring tools no longer send the critical alert. Instead,
the Performance Counter called “store.exe Private Bytes”
is disabled by default.

2003: KB 835734
05/23/2004 09:16 PMThere is a problem with how the POP3 connector processes certain
messages downloaded from a POP3 server. This problem could result in
the POP3 connector accidentally re-sending certain messages to
recipients who are not part of the SBS server e-mail domain.
This may happen only in the cases where the POP3 connector is used to
download mail from an external POP account. Customers using Exchange
to host their mail internally will not experience this problem. This
update resolves this issue.
