iSkin Inc. introduced a keyboard protector called ProTouch XT on Friday. ProTouch XT was designed to fit Apple's regular and wireless keyboards in a form-fitting manner that keeps out debris while maintaining the typing feel, in addition to dampening keystroke noise. It can be removed and washed off whenever necessary. The ProTouch XT retails for US$29.99 and comes in blue and transparent colors, with more on the way, according to iSkin. The company also notes that the cover doesn't fit Apple's older Pro keyboard nor its USB keyboard.

MacCentral - Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, took a cue from his boss, CEO Steve Jobs, as he unveiled one more thing at the end of his keynote to kick off this week's Apple Expo in Paris: an iMac G5 that includes the entire system inside a 17- or 20-inch LCD screen. Continuing the all-in-one theme that started with the original CRT iMac, the G5 edition features a new industrial design that does away with the hemispherical base of the previous generation all together. Schiller said that the new iMacs will be available in mid-September.

Apple also introduced new 23-inch and 20-inch displays to replace their existing flat panel monitors. The new displays all have the by-now familiar widescreen aspect ratio found across almost all of Apple's pro hardware line, and sport dual FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 ports, and use DVI to connect to video cards instead of Apple's vaunted ADC interface -- making the new monitors compatible out-of-the-box with Power Macs, PowerBooks, and PC-compatible computers as well.

Apple Extended Keyboard re-created in
modern USB flavor

Apple Extended Keyboard re-created in
modern USB flavor
04/09/2004 04:05 PM
Apple's Extended Keyboard was the keyboard that Mac enthusaists fell in love with. It had great action, a rattly, clackety hapticality that was poetry for the fingertips and wrists and forearms. Now a company has released the Tactile Pro, a modern USB keyboard that uses the same mechanism as the old Extended Keyboard, recreating that carpal nirvana in a package that will interop with your G5. Here's the ecstatic TidBITS review:
Where the Tactile Pro Keyboard really shines, though, is in its feel. The keys are decidedly "clickier" and more mechanical, and they have a slightly longer key travel when you push them. The end result is a much less mushy feel than on the Apple Pro Keyboard, but accompanied by much louder typing noises. When I'm typing fast, the Tactile Pro Keyboard almost clatters, and I can say with assurance that I don't mind one bit. The new feel took a little getting used to, but within a day, it felt quite wonderful.

iSkin eVo2 Wildsides

iSkin eVo2 Wildsides 02/01/2005 09:09 PM

iskin_evo.jpg imageThe new iSkin eVo2 Wildsides are everything I hate about "hip" product design: gaudy colors, ridiculous X-treM advertising, gimmicky glow-in-the dark features, a naming scheme that sounds like it was first carved by ballpoint on a 7th-grader's notebook (Verve! Rebel! Diva!), and a price ($35) that far outweighs the amount of thought or effort that went into their creation.

And I think they're great. I don't know why—something is obviously broken—but when I look at them, I want to put them in my mouth and let them melt. Even better is their disclaimer: "Actual product may vary!"

Interview: Rishi Persaud of iSkin 08/04/2004 09:57 AM

iskin_interview.jpg imageGizmodo field reporter Kenneth Armstrong recently had the opportunity to talk to Rishi Persaud, who is in charge of product development at iSkin, about the state of their business and how they are moving beyond the iPod. Far beyond. Like, record-label beyond.

Gizmodo: I was wondering if you could talk a little about how you've grown with the portable music player business? When you started it was really in its infancy and now your product line reflects the incredibly popular iPods, iPod minis and now iRiver portables.

iSkin: We jumped into a growing industry pertaining to the portable digital player market. We have shown tremendous growth and a lot of it has to do with our dedicated staff. It is great when you have a team that believes in the overall success of a brand and its effect on the customer.
