Replacing Perl Scripts with PHP Scripts
Replacing Perl Scripts with PHP Scripts
11/26/2002 05:12 AMWith the introduction of version 4.2, PHP has started supporting a
new SAPI (Server Application Programming Interface) called CLI
(Command Line Interface). This facility was introduced to help
developers create small shell applications (scripts) with PHP. So, now
you can kiss Perl goodbye forever. -- Jayesh Jain

using PHP for their batch scripts too. Hmm maybe it is because they

Scripts and Slashes
Scripts and Slashes
10/28/2003 11:08 PMIn an earlier blog entry, I mentioned how Safari was having to
emulate a quirk in Mozilla in order to make a particular Web site
work. When Mozilla encounters a <script/> element
with an XML-style self-closing /, it actually closes the tag, even in
HTML pages. This is - I believe - incorrect behavior, since in HTML
the / is invalid and should simply be discarded, leaving you with an
open tag instead.
If you try this in WinIE and Safari 1.0, you'll see that they
behave identically. They both ignore the / and leave the script open.
Both Mozilla and Opera, however, honor the / and close up the script
tag.
With my "fix" for this bug, the latest Safari will now honor the /
as well. I wonder if this behavior was deliberate on the part of
Mozilla and Opera or just some accidental fallout from their XML
implementations... whatever the case, we're all stuck with it now,
since Web sites are (amazingly) writing to it.

contextual script menu. Stuff 1.0 improves on the “Stuff”
script included with Big Cat by stuffing selected items into one
archive instead of multiple separate archives. Zip 1.0 works in a
similar manner but uses DropZip to create Unix and PC compatible zip
files. Word Count 1.0 puts up a dialogue box showing the number of
characters and the number of words in a text selection.

/etc/net 0.7.1 (Scripts branch)
03/25/2005 07:06 AM
/etc/net represents a new approach to Linux
network configuration tasks. Inspired by the
limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for
configuration profiles, interface name management,
removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and
a QoS configuration framework. /etc/net provides
support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec
tunnels, VLAN, PLIP, Ethernet bonding and
bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent@NET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new
interface types can be added without overall
design changes.
Changes:
This release features a minor bugfix for network.init, a
flushed PPP address bugfix, an iplink file processing bugfix,
and an updated childfinder script for the new HOST variable.

When Zero Equals Many in Windows XP
When Zero Equals Many in Windows XP
06/04/2004 09:11 AMWired News looks into Windows XP's dropped Wi-Fi connection problem:
Daniel Terdiman tries to dig for the bodies in his search for why
Windows XP drops Wi-Fi network connections inexplicably and often
shows them as still active. Microsoft claims there's no systematic
problem, but it's clear from reading any forum in which Wi-Fi is
discussed--such as the DSLReports.com site--that this is a frequent
issue. My solution, provided to me by a vendor about two years ago, of
restarting Wireless Zero Configuration is explained in the article.
This has solved 99 percent of my Windows XP Wi-Fi problems, but it's
nestled so deeply that it's baffling. I've felt for a while that
Microsoft should have a top-level interface to WZC because when it
stops running, the user has no idea that anything's afoot until they
drill down, down, down, and see that the setting reads "not
running."...

It does what it says on the tin. Highlight a PHP function or keyword,

former Bare Bones developer, so he obviously knows a thing or two),
this flexible script can scan your document for PHP parsing errors

your HTML also. Pretty nifty huh?
