Photo Archives: Imperial Shuttle 11/03/2003 01:01 AM

The Imperial Shuttle makes an unscheduled landing today in our Photo Archives. Originally appearing in Return of the Jedi, then retroactively snuck into the special edition of The Empire Strikes Back, this vehicle transports high-ranking officials across the galaxy and features adjustable wings, landing gear, and room for the Emperor and his entourage.

Vintage Photo Archives: Imperial Gunner

Vintage Photo Archives: Imperial Gunner 01/19/2004 05:04 AM
Though not usually the topic of many conversations, the Imperial Gunner figure is sculpted after the soldiers who worked the weapons of the second death Star and not the first. Eagle-eyed star Wars fans will note that the guys operating the big laser in A new Hope wore large padded chest plates, where the ones in Return Of The Jedi, just like today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive, did their evil in non-restrictive black jumpsuits.

Dignitary
01/09/2004 09:55 PM
The Imperial Dignitary is the living testament that the Emperor was an impartial employer. Obviously the dictator was hiring these dignitaries based soling on their resumes and not on their appearance. Then again, Palpatine has proven to be a man that loved theatrics in all their ‘Look at me, I’m compensating!!!’glory, so maybe he did hire today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive only because he fell out of the ugly tree…

Part of the Death Star Procession in Return of the Jedi, this grim-faced advisor to Emperor Palpatine comes with a support base and is the first member of the dastardly duo. A second dignitary is planned for later in the year, and can be seen on the back of the card.

Fighter Pilot
11/17/2003 01:00 AM
It must have been a hard life for the Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot. Not only did today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive have to live without a name (or face for that matter) of his own, he had to haul butt in a fast moving ball with two huge targets mounted on its sides and try making it through a battle without the luxury of shields of any kind. On a plus note, he did get to blow up defending a giant space orb of evil that, by design, tends to be built specifically to be inevitably destroyed by upstart rebels...

Vintage Photo Archives: Luke Skywalker
(Imperial Stormtrooper Outfit)
01/16/2004 11:05 AM
The Luke Skywalker (Imperial Stormtrooper Outfit) action figure is the only Power Of The Force figure based on costume or situation that wasn’t in Return Of The Jedi. Granted, one could argue the Han Solo (In Carbonite Chamber) could also fit into that category, but it wasn’t entirely based exclusively on the events of the other two films, so it loses out by default; making today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive stand alone in the crowd.

Our Photo Archives gets a little bit more wise today with the addition of Ask Yoda from the Original Trilogy Collection. Complete with a 24 phrases and soft goods clothing, this version of Yoda is based on his appearance in The Empire Strikes Back. As an added bonus, we've also added the Saga version of Ask Yoda as well, although his outfit is from Attack of the Clones.

Vintage Photo Archives: EV-9D9 01/05/2004 02:25 AM
Believe it or not, EV-9D9, the creepy tobacco throated droid from Jabba’s Palace, was actually a female droid! Yes, that’s right, in the old days of Star Wars today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive shared the pages of the annual ‘Hot Chicks In A Galaxy Far, Far Away…’ calendar. Humana. Humana. Humana.

Vintage Photo Archives: 4-LOM

Vintage Photo Archives: 4-LOM 11/14/2003 01:20 AM
Most vintage collectors will argue to no end that Kenner's vintage Star Wars line was flawless, but even the most die-hard out there will agree that the toymaker did mess up once. The mistake in question deals partially with the 4-LOM action figure. It seems that the hard working people at Kenner had somehow mixed his and Zuckuss's names up. As a result, to vintage collectors, today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive will always be 4-LOM. But for those of you that read this column daily, it is, of course, all old news…

Vintage Photo Archives: 8D8

Vintage Photo Archives: 8D8 12/15/2003 02:28 AM
How is it that 8D8, a mute white robot that looks like it belongs on a Pete Townsend album cover could be a popular action figure? Well, in the case of 8D8, there is the whole Star Wars character angle, plus like many kids, this guy liked taking out his aggressions on pool little Power Droids. So it would seem a no-brainer… Well, except that today's addition to the Vintage Photo Archive wasn’t really a popular action figure. Chances are, anyone with hours on their hands (like any toy collector doesn’t have too much of that) could probably still find a couple of these carded at their local mom and pop toy store. Hint: Look behind the Bionic Six action figures in the discount bin.

Vintage Photo Archives: Too-Onebee
(2-1B)
11/04/2003 02:01 AM
Sure the vintage 2-1B action figure was Johnny-on-the-spot whenever a farm boy needed to get some serious plastic surgery or a new bio-mechanic hand, but what has he done for the Rebellion lately? More than you know pal, more than you'll ever know! For instance, whom do you think the Rebels turn to on New Year's Eve for a designated driver? Who do you think shovels the walks on the Hoth base and scrubs the moss of the Ewok suspension bridges on the Forest moon of Endor? That's right, the good old medical droid, that's who. Today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive doesn't mind much though, since it keeps the Rebels off his precious collection of medical gurneys.

Vintage Photo Archives: Paploo

Vintage Photo Archives: Paploo 01/01/2004 01:03 AM
Along with his good buddy Teebo, Paploo here owned the ewok Village… at least according the Return Of the Jedi novel. Sadly, for whatever reason, today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive is represented as nothing g more than a nameless character in the film. Well, a nameless character who stole a speeder Bike and essentially gave the Rebel Alliance the ability to deaf the Evil Galactic Empire that is.

Photo Archives Update: OTC Cardbacks 09/02/2004 12:05 PM
It's all about the packaging with the Original Trilogy Collection this year. Not only do we get the cards we've always wanted to buy, but we also get the cards the toy designers have always wanted to make! As I've been getting luckier with my toy hunts recently, I've been scanning in the cardbacks to show off the great backgrounds that are part of this line. I don't have them all yet, but what I have scored has been added to our Photo Archives today.

Vintage Photo Archives: Lumat

Vintage Photo Archives: Lumat 01/02/2004 02:23 AM
Technically speaking, Lumat was the last figure released as a Return Of The Jedi figure in North American. This little scrapper and Paploo were the only new figures to see release on the Return Of The Jedi 79 back card, which was the last card back before The Power Of The Force line debuted. Since today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive is pictured after Paploo, and he didn’t get to do anything as cool as scoff a Speeder Bike, he gets the honour.

Vintage Photo Archives: Pruneface

Vintage Photo Archives: Pruneface 12/10/2003 02:16 AM
Generally speaking, vintage collectors disregard virtually everything the Expanded Universe has offered to the Star Wars community. Even though they still call him Pruneface instead of “Orrimaarko.”, all have to agree that the EU did answer the age old question that overshadows all others in the vintage community: ...Who’s this guy???... With it’s rather ambiguous card back photo, most collectors thought today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive was based on one of the myriad characters from Jabba’s Palace who got a millisecond of screen time in Return Of The Jedi. As it turns out, he ended up being a rebel dude from the second act... who only got a millisecond of screen time in Return Of The Jedi.

Our Master Replicas Photo Archives is updated today with the perfect reward for heroes of the Rebel Alliance. Vintage Photo Archives: Lobot

Vintage Photo Archives: Lobot 10/31/2003 01:41 AM
Perhaps the vintage Lobot action figure isn't as exciting as, say, either of the Bespin guards or the Cloud Car pilot, but he certainly was an intriguing character in the film, and that likely had a lot to do with today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive’s success on the toy shelves-- That or maybe it was the fancy shirts he had a proclivity for wearing that Star Wars fans went nuts for.

Photo Archives: Jedi Warriors

Photo Archives: Jedi Warriors 03/06/2004 02:00 AM
Our Photo Archives turns into a battlefield today with a new multipack of Jedi Warriors. Right out of Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan Kenobi is trapped in the Geonosian containment field, and it's up to Plo Koon, Saesee Tiin, and Fi-Ek Sirch to rescue him.

The year of Bossk continues as we wrap up our series of Unleashed additions to our Photo Archives. The fearsome Trandoshan bounty hunter first seen in The Empire Strikes Back lives for hunting down his prey. His deadly aim and fiery temper make him a force to be reckoned with.

Vintage Photo Archives: Nikto

Vintage Photo Archives: Nikto 12/16/2003 01:56 AM
Despite how simplistic the vintage Nikto figure appears to be, it is one of the most faithful sculpts to be found in the Kenner line. As a matter of fact, save the yellow lines that were on the character’s pants, today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive proves that the people at Kenner were not only very concerned with making top quality toys that best represented the film, they wanted to make toys worthy of the children that they made the toys for. There is little doubt that Kenner ‘really did care’ about more than the bottom line and it showed.

Vintage Photo Archives: Zuckuss

Vintage Photo Archives: Zuckuss 11/13/2003 01:59 AM
Most vintage collectors will argue to no end that Kenner's vintage Star Wars line was flawless, but even the most die-hard out there will agree that the toymaker did mess up once. The mistake in question deals partially with the Zuckuss action figure. It seems that the hard working people at Kenner had somehow mixed his and 4-LOM's names up. As a result, to vintage collectors, today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive will always be Zuckuss.

Vintage Photo Archives: Klaatu

Vintage Photo Archives: Klaatu 12/09/2003 02:41 AM
The vintage Klaatu figure may seem like nothing more than a plastic representation of one of the many thugs on the payroll of one Jabba The Hutt. To a vintage variation collector, however, today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive is evil... pure, unadulterated evil.

Photo Archives: VOTC Yoda 08/20/2004 10:53 AM
Our Photo Archives is updated with the next in the new special Vintage-style Original Trilogy Collection figures from The Empire Strikes Back. The ultimate version of Yoda, this figure perfectly captures every detail of the Jedi Master. Pose him limping through the swamps of Dagobah, using the Force to lift sunken ships, or showing off his sexy legs (that's right---legs!), this figure can do it all!

Vintage Photo Archives: Bib Fortuna

Vintage Photo Archives: Bib Fortuna 12/02/2003 12:27 AM
Even though he lived in a nice house in a neighbourhood pretty close to the bright center of the galaxy, Bib Fortuna got teased a lot when he was in junior high. As if it isn’t awkward enough for the poor guy to put up with the challenges of puberty whilst dealing with the fact that he’d never win any beauty contests, today's addition to the Vintage Photo Archive had to deal with having a name that was simply begging to be used against him. It’s no wonder the young wallflower grew up to hang out with smelly do-no-gooders with down right silly names on the planet furthest from.

Vintage Photo Archives: The Emperor

Vintage Photo Archives: The Emperor 12/19/2003 11:31 AM
Before he was known as Darth Sidious, our boy went by simply The Emperor. What many people don’t realize though, is that this guy, who was once a simple senator known as Palpatine, had his motivations clearly spelled out to the [soon-to-be] Star Wars Generation before any of the films were even released. As a matter of fact, Sci-Fi fans who picked up the Star Wars: From The Adventures Of Luke Skywalker novel ‘written’ by George Lucas in 1976, were privy to the underlining plot of The Phantom Menace months before A New Hope was released. The book had a small prologue called The Journal Of The Whills, which for the most part is all about today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive. Facts are kooky.

Vintage Photo Archives: Teebo

Vintage Photo Archives: Teebo 12/23/2003 01:32 AM
If ever there was a reason to read the Return Of The Jedi novel, it would be all the cool bits about Teebo (and his chum Paploo). Even though the film leads one to believe that this is a figure of a background character, nothing could be further from the truth. Granted, one would have to put aside their views on Ewoks all together to fully appreciate this portion of the book, they would find it hard justifying their discontent for these characters after doing so. In the case of today’s addition to the Vintage Photo Archive here, he was actually a very well respected member of the tribe and played a major part in our heroes’ fate. So stop reading this, and –uh-- read that.

Photo Archives: Holiday Sandtrooper 12/28/2004 05:08 PM
As the saying goes, it is far better to give than receive. Gentle Giant Studios goes beyond the call of duty this year with a very gracious gift to those that have helped support their Star Wars line and we are honored to officially add this treasure to our Photo Archives today. While not technically part of their Mini-Bust line, the Holiday Edition Silver and Gold Sandtrooper is destined to become one of the most desirable Star Wars collectibles of all time.
