The mixed bag of syntax highlighting
The mixed bag of syntax highlighting
12/02/2003 12:58 AMLike so many other programmers, I use a syntax-highlighting editor.
(Well, OK, I'm an emacs user, so technically I'm using a syntax
highlighting operating system, but we'll let that one slide) I have
noticed one interesting thing about using it, though--I comment my
code less. I noticed this the other day when I printed out the code
for the compiler module I'm working on. In the editor, with colored
highlighting enabled, it makes sense what's going on, and everything's
reasonably obvious. On paper, though, in black and white with no
highlighting the lack of comments was much more obvious, and...

Advanced Error Handling: Writing an
Error Handling Class
11/10/2003 11:25 PMIf you're tired of the default error handler and want to have complete
control over default error messages, you should write your own error
handling class. Writing your own handler will enable you to change the
way php handles your error messages, and allows you to create your own
error types. With this class you will be able to send error messages
to a log file, or send error reports via email.

Syntax Olevia 20" LCD TV with VGA
Connection
07/14/2004 09:59 AM
Syntax Groups has announced
a new 20-inch version of its Olevia LCD TV, which while not the most
attractive piece of hardware, does continue the Olevias' tradition of
including a VGA connection for use with PCs -- something that should
be, but often isn't, standard on an LCD television. Sure, a 20-inch
monitor with a resolution of only 800 by 600 isn't going to blow
anyone's socks off, but if you're going to drop $700 on what is
essentially a monitor, it's nice to have the option to use it as you
please.
Olevia has also announced an upcoming 32-inch television with a
low-response time to help alleviate image blurring (16ms) and a more
reasonable 1366 by 768 resolution.
Full press release after the jump.

Syntax is
preparing to launch another Olevia flat-screen LCD television, this
one a 42-inch widescreen with a 1,366 by 768 pixel resolution and an
8ms response time (pretty decent, as these things go). The biggest
thing, though, is that it's Syntax's first HDTV with a built-in ATSC
and HDMI tuner, meaning it's effectively a plug-and-play solution
(previous models required an external tuner). Expect to see the
LT42HVi in June for around $3,700.
I like the black bezel, too. It's definitely nicer looking than the
old silver models.
