I just saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and liked it rather a lot. If you are a geek, there's a high probability you will too. It's Michel Gondry's second feature-length film, and it's been out for about a month. Here's what Elvis Mitchell says about it in the New York Times. Check out the trailer here.

One more foodie suggestion 06/05/2005 11:55 PM

Choire writes in with another foodie suggestion:

what you REALLY want to do once in your life is make your own "mother sponge" -- capture some wild yeasts outside, and blammo, you've got your own tamagotchi, basically, which needs feeding and care. it really only takes a week to raise before it can go dormant in the fridge, with weekly feedings-- and it makes REAL sourdough, not that blechy SF sourdough. and any good baker should do it once. it's both incredibly easy and incredibly hard, but REALLY the most satisfying bread experience EVER.

It sounds scary, but I'm going to trust him on this one.

The Suggestion Box Is Open

The Suggestion Box Is Open 02/01/2005 09:59 PM
Last summer, Microsoft launched a new Web-based interface for the hundreds of newsgroups that provide peer-to-peer support for Microsoft products. The Microsoft Office Discussion Groups, including those for Outlook, let users ask questions and make suggestions to Microsoft. Since the online suggestion box’s August debut, the forum has generated nearly 100 suggestions for Outlook Contacts, nearly 150 for the Outlook Calendar, and hundreds more general Outlook suggestions. I thought that a good way to start…

AP - "People make a lot of stupid assumptions about me when they hear my name," says Victoria Gotti. No kidding. But that's the whole point of "Growing Up Gotti," A&E's new unscripted series: To knock down certain obvious assumptions about the daughter of deceased mob boss John Gotti. And to reinforce others: the vulgar extravagance of this full-figured bottle blonde and her three full-of-'tude teens is also part of the appeal.

Deane's Suggestion for Library Discs

Deane's Suggestion for Library Discs 12/19/2004 03:36 PM

D-Skin

"Every library in the country should get a supply of these for their DVD collections, which are, invariably, the most scratched up set of media in existence." [Gadgetopia, originally from undisclosed location]

This is a great suggestion if we can get a bulk purchase price.

D-Skins

"Just snap one of these onto your music, movie, game or data CD’s and consider them protected. The amazing Liplock Seal snaps onto the edge of any standard size disc and holds tight. Leave your d_skin Protective Disc Skin on while you play away — outside and inside your media players. Seriously. Your discs are totally readable right through the Skin."

Boston-area bank suggestion? (Bank of

Boston-area bank suggestion? (Bank of
America is not dog-friendly)
06/22/2005 02:23 AM

My bank has been purchased, for about the fifth time.  Currently it is called "Bank of America."  None of the previous changes of ownership or name bothered me but this time the new color scheme came with "no dogs allowed" signs in the front of every branch office.  I'm not sure that I can stomach 0.2% interest if I can't have a dog at my side to provide some comfort as inflation and corporate looters erode my turbine-powered helicopter fund.  Anyone have a suggestion for a dog-friendly bank in the Boston area?

I was sitting in a coworker's office (err, "cube") today when she pulled up My Yahoo to figure out what day of the week January 31st was. She scrolled down a bit to the calendar module and when she did, I noticed my blog was in her list of news sources. It was empty. For a split second I thought it was bug. Back in the early days of RSS and My Yahoo, there were a few bugs. One of...

Bob Wyman: PubSub.com is willing to offer a $5,000 bounty to whoever builds the "best" full implementation as an open source Apache module by Jan 1, 2005. It seems that some of the smaller but more aggressive feed consumers have the most to benefit from bandwidth reduction measures than even the mega colossal feed producers do.  Uncompressed, undelta'ed, full text feeds may be becoming the barrier to entry to the next Bloglines, Feedster, PubSub or Technorati.

While we were wandering around Microsoft Research with Kevin Schofield, we wondered "what could be done to make organizing photos easier and nicer?" Microsoft Research's Next Media group has the answer. Here Curtis Wong, the guy who leads the group, demoed for us their Media Browser technology (News.com called it Photo Triage, but the team actually calls it the "Media Browser" because it does more than photos). This technology demonstrates how you could organize and look at your digital photos in the future.
