businesses, that enterprises should seriously consider banning the
iPod and other portable storage devices, according to a study by
research firm
Gartner Inc. The
devices, using a Universal Serial Bus (USB) or FireWire (IEEE 1394),
present risks to businesses on several fronts: from introducing
malicious code into a corporate network, to being used to steal
corporate data, the Stamford, Conn.-based research company said in its
report "How to Tackle the Threat From Portable Storage Devices,"
published Friday.

relatively slow speed of USB 1.1 translates into relatively
low-quality video. This probably isn't the first one of these on the
market, but there's a new external USB 2.0 TV tuner for PCs from
Adaptec that all but solves that problem. The VideOh! DVD Media Center
USB 2.0 Edition comes with software for automatically recording TV
shows as MPEG1 or MPEG2 files and DVD creation software for archiving
those same shows once you've run out of space on your hard drive.

The Inquirer continues their excellent coverage of Computex
2005, including a shot of this GeCube GC-STK-TV, a USB TV tuner so
small that its antenna is larger than the circuitry. It doesn't look
quite ready for a released product, of course, but something that
small could be very handy for the traveling types who have run out of
DVDs and Bit Torrents.
There's probably not very much chance GeCube specifically will
release a model here in the States, but the technology is there, so
someone will.
