CLSQL is an SQL database interface for Common
Lisp. It provides object-oriented and functional
access methods to the underlying database, which
can be one of MySQL, ODBC, PostgreSQL, or SQLite.
It uses the Unified Foreign Function Interface
(UFFI) and thus supports the CMU Common Lisp,
Steel Bank Common Lisp, and Allegro Common Lisp
implementations.
Changes:
Support for 64-bit systems and fink on Darwin was
improved. Memory management was optimized.

Steel Bank Common Lisp is a development
environment for Common Lisp, with excellent
support for the ANSI standard: garbage collection,
lexical closures, powerful macros, strong dynamic
typing, incremental compilation, and the famous
Common Lisp Object System (multimethods and all).
It also includes many extensions, such as native
threads, socket support, a statistical profiler,
programmable streams, and more. These are all
available through an integrated, interactive
native compiler which feels like an interpreter.
SBCL is unique in being a multiplatform native
compiler which bootstraps itself completely from
source, using a C compiler and any other ANSI
Common Lisp implementation.
Changes:
Thread support for non-NPTL systems has been
removed, since locking is buggy and unreliable.
The optimization policy is now handled in the
manner which ANSI specifies. Disassembling X86-64
code is now more robust. Single-precision floating
point numbers can now be represented as immediates
on X86-64.

Embedding With A Lisp
Embedding With A Lisp
07/20/2004 06:00 AMEmbedding With A Lisp By William Wong, ED Online
(Volume 2004, Number 5) htt
p://www.elecdesign.com/Articles/ArticleID/8420/8420.html "Lisp stands for List Processing, but there have been
many other descriptions provided such as Lots of Irritating
Superfluous Parentheses. Experienced programmers without Lisp exposure
normally go into shock when looking at a Lisp program for the first
time, but after a little work Lisp coding becomes natural to the point
where other languages now start to look arcane. Trust me. Lisp code is
not really totally foreign. Take this little snippet for example....
Assuming you have made it this far, you might be wondering why Lisp
has not taken the world by storm. Lisp is actually very old. It is
only preceded by Fortran in terms of age for high-level languages.
Along the way, Lisp has seen a number of myths built up around it. For
example, many consider Lisp to be a language for "artificial
intelligence" (AI). While it is true that Lisp is a key language for
AI applications, AI is not the only realm for Lisp. Lisp has been used
in a range of applications from transportation scheduling to web
scripting applications. Emacs was a popular text editor that was based
on Lisp."

Seven Common SSL Pitfalls
07/02/2002 02:54 AMSSL is an excellent protocol. Like many tools, it is effective if
you know how to use it well, but it is also easy to misuse. If you are
deploying SSL, there are many pitfalls to be aware of, but with a
little work, most can be avoided. In this article, we discuss the
seven most common pitfalls when deploying SSL-enabled applications
with OpenSSL. -- John Viega
