Unger chews Isikoff a new one

Unger chews Isikoff a new one 07/07/2004 09:27 AM

The Newsweek-Fahrenheit wars - Michael Isikoff's "seven errors, distortions and selective omissions of crucial information" detailed by Craig Unger, "House of Bush, House of Saud" author (read excerpts of his book at Salon.com, for members or by a "day pass") Isikoff has heavily cited Unger's book but, it seems, not bothered to read Unger's generously provided source files. "Liberal" PBS is not excluded, as credulous (or ignorant) "On the Media" host Bob Garfield's July 2 interview with Isikoff demonstrates. What shall we call such pervasive, ongoing and seemingly willful patterns of inaccuracy, distortion, and selective omission?

SCO Suit Against DaimlerChrysler Tossed

SCO Suit Against DaimlerChrysler Tossed 07/21/2004 04:25 PM
Continuing the ongoing farce that is SCO's legal strategy and (they bizarrely seem to believe) business model, John points us to the latest over at Groklaw noting that it sounds like pret ty much the entire case against DaimlerChrysler has been dismissed. You may recall that SCO made a big stink about how they were going to start suing companies, despite the lack of any real evidence that they have any IP claims on Linux, with AutoZone and DaimlerChrysler being the initial targets. It appears that strategy has gone down the drain now as well. If this doesn't convince companies to ignore baseless threats from SCO, I don't know what will.

NewsForge has found that The SCO Group, which purports to have ownership of all Unix System V code, was also fishing for usage of its proprietary code in Linux systems when it filed a lawsuit March 3 against multinational automaker DaimlerChrysler. On paper, the lawsuit alleged only that DaimlerChrysler had not recertified with SCO Group the use of its old Unix code, as required by the original license contract between Chrysler Motors Corp. (now DaimlerChrysler) and AT&T Information Systems (which owned the Unix code at that time).
