Evil: Google goes over to the dark side

Evil: Google goes over to the dark side

Evil: Google goes over to the dark side 07/02/2004 07:57 PM

Google's new privacy policy has a loophole a good lawyer could manuver a battleship through: We do not rent or sell your personally identifying information to other companies or individuals, unless we have your consent. We may share such information in any of the following limited circumstances: ... * We have your consent. ... * We conclude that we are required by law or have a good faith belief that access, preservation or disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Google, its users or the public. What happened to "Do No Evil?" I sure hope that my GoogleAnon Bookmarklet is working....

Welcome to Pushington Downs This amusing fairy tale is brought to us from some of the fine folks from MST3k. Edward the less is an amusing bit of comedy based in a universe almost completely unlike that of JRR Tolkien. It never made it past series 1. Perhaps a bunch of renewed interest would push it along.

Is Google News Evil?

Is Google News Evil? 02/25/2003 10:14 AM
Is Google News Evil? I hadn't realized how volatile Google News was until just this morning. I clicked onto it and opened an article in a new browser window. My normal excessively windowed reading habit, I'll admit. Then I happened to refresh the original Google News window and *Poof* after just a minute or two. Gone. Now don't get me wrong, I completely understand why it works like that but it did make me aware to the degree that Google News is starting to shape my thinking just by granting me access to a wider range of content than previously. Here's content that it just filtered out of my view in real time. Overall I do think Google News is good but this example really showed me how it could be applied in an evil fashion. How do we know that the presentation algorithms won't get perverted? Of course this is the question that has always existed with any type of news gathering organization -- they all bring bias to the table.
