Second attempt, this time with real details, after the jump.

So Bluetooth and I are fine, we can go out and get a coffee, maybe catch a movie, but I'm always sort of uncomfortable around it because I just don't understand why, with all its promise and potential, it still doesn't let me use wireless headphones. I mean, there's headphones...

bluetake_hayabusa.jpg imageSo Hardware Pacers has the first review I've seen of the Bluetake BT420 EX Bluetooth Hi-Fi Sports Headphones, but it sort of reads more like the eighth-grade epic poem I once wrote to express my true feelings for Mandi Hefner, peppered with lots of 'the most incredibles' and 'exhilaratings' and 'perfections,' although thankfully the review doesn't feature me as a modern-day urban ninja, out to protect her honor by defeating the Suitors of the Seven Stairs. It does have, among other things, a surprisingly-high suggested retail price -- about $250 -- which pretty much means all those superlatives better be spot on, especially when they note that the sound quality diminishes in the presence of other Bluetooth devices.

Also, Hardware Pacers, your Forbidden Right Click Technique is no match for my Celestial Print Screen Science! (Thanks, JP!)

This is interesting: Blueserker noticed a pulled listing on Amazon for a Nike-branded 1.5GB MP3 player with Bluetooth Headphones, manufactured by Philips. It looks like it will (would be?) powered by a CF hard drive and would sport (get it? Nike?) a rubberized finish. Since Nike-branded MP3 players tend to...

Hands Free Calling Over Your Headphones
06/03/2004 12:22 PM

boomgear_mp820bt.jpg imageBlueserker is reporting that Amazon is taking preorders for the BoomGear MP-820BT MP3 player for $180. The MP-820BT has integrated Bluetooth which can, when paired with your mobile phone, route incoming calls over your headphones and use the built-in microphone to talk about without ever pulling the phone out of your pocket. It only has 256MB of RAM built-in, but it does have an integrated FM tuner, so for the more mobile among us it could be a slick way to go hands-free.

defame your stereo

defame your stereo 12/19/2004 03:48 PM

I don't remember how I found them, but I have two new favorite websites: Defamer and Stereogum. They touch my sense of humor in a way that, if Loretta touched Cleveland that way, he'd say, "Oh, Loretta, that tickles me."

There will probably be light blogging for the next week or so. I think the problem with my neck, the cold that I'm barely holding at bay, and about two weeks of really restless sleep are symptoms of trying to do too goddamn much stuff all at once.

JVC UX-QD7 "Lip Lap" Rainbow Stereo

JVC UX-QD7 "Lip Lap" Rainbow Stereo 07/27/2004 01:12 PM

qd7_topimg.jpg imageAlright, I guess this does it: rainbow LEDs are the new blue LEDs. JVC has a new DVD/MD/CD mini-system called the UX-QD7 that not only has 63 color combinations in its LCD display, but also shoots a matching color through the clear plastic disc tray underneath. It's also nicknamed the "Lip Lap," although I don't have the foggiest idea why. While it's not super-likely that the Lip Lap will see the light of day here in the States (especially not with the Minidisc), this isn't the last time (nor the first) we see flashy candy-colored rainbow patterns in our electronics, mark my words.

Hack Your Car Stereo

Hack Your Car Stereo 06/17/2005 03:57 PM

“I was tired of using a cassette adapter with my iPod, because it added lots of noise. If I tried to turn the iPod up loud to drown out the noise, the levels would get messed up somehow, and the treble would sound painfully loud. After looking around online for auxiliary input things you can install in your car, I found that they all ranged from $80 to $200, plus installation. While this may be…

Since we wrote a blurb last week about one product that streams digital music to your stereo, we've gotten a couple of notes from readers or companies that like other solutions: Inupon is one company that makes a device that can stream audio to stereos. Another is called Squeezebox....

Hacking your Car Stereo

Hacking your Car Stereo 06/17/2005 06:10 PM

16.jpgiPod enthusiast Matt Gilbert has thrown together a nice, cost-efficient hack to get the iPod running directly to a car stereo without having an auxiliary input. He had experienced static and interference when using FM Transmitters or cassette adapters, and this tweak uses a toggle switch and some wire splicing to create a direct line-in into any car stereo.

The total cost of the mod is under $1 (if you already have basic wiring tools and supplies), and it's a great way to ruin your dashboard if you mess up.

iPod and the Car Stereo

iPod and the Car Stereo 01/04/2005 08:49 AM

App le's iPod rocks car-stereo makers: It looks like L awyer Milloy was way ahead of his time.

Looking to capitalize on the digital music player's sales success over the holidays, auto electronics makers are rushing to develop plug-in adapters that let drivers pick tunes from their iPods using the controls of their car stereos.

It's a market that can't be ignored: Some retailers sold out of Apple Computer's iPod during the holiday shopping blitz. Analysts estimated Apple sold more than 4 million iPods during the holiday rush; that could push the number of iPod users to 10 million.

DJ1 PRO headphones

DJ1 PRO headphones 06/22/2005 01:54 AM
Ultrasone's DJ1 PRO headphones are closed-back, professional DJ headphones. The DJ1 PROs are foldable and come with one coiled 3 metre cable and one coiled 3 metre cable with volume control and stereo/mono switch. The headphones have a gold-plated 1/4" stereo jack with a 1/4" gold-plated adapter and also come with a transportation bag, an extra pair of ear pads, instruction manual and demo CD. The black travel bag has a silver DJ Pro logo on the front and a draw string and fits the headphones perfectly when they are folded up. The cups on the DJ1 PROs are slightly larger than those on most other DJ headphones, and the well-padded headband is wider than most to provide additional support. The left cup has a jack to screw in the one of the cables. The threaded 1/8-inch connection screws into the ear cup and the 1/4-inch side connects on the other end. The cables are durable and flexible and a good length. The headphones with their large cups, have superior sound isolation and block out background noise, even without any music playing. Currently, most headphone drivers convert an electric signal into an acoustical signal, producing low-frequency magnetic fields and, according to Ultrasone, these emissions can be hazardous to our health. Since professional DJs spend half of their lives using headphones, Ultrasone developed a special MU Metal shielding to reduce the radiation 98% more than current headphones on the market. Featuring S-Logic Natural Surround Sound, the DJ1 PRO headphones have a broad sound, allowing the user to distinguish directions and distances for a more natural, concert-like sound. S-Logic allows up to 40% lower dB output (3-4 dB) for the same loudness sensation which could reduce the risk of hearing damage. These great sounding headphones, their health care features and useful accessories are the best sounding headphones that Spymac has tested, but they are also the most expensive. Compared to Ultrasone's DJ1 headphones, the DJ1 PROs sound better with more clarity, and for professionals, the options that come with the PRO model make them worth the extra money. The DJ1 PROs sell for around $230-$250 through several online retailers. Specifications: Frequency range: 10-22.000 Hz Impedance: 64 Ohm Sound pressure level: 102 dB Driver: 50 mm Mylar Weight: 295 g (without cord) Pros: Excellent sound Comfortable Carrying case included Cons: Price http://www.ultrasone.com/ If your company has a product you would like Spymac to review, please send an email to news@spymac.com.
