Java Embedding Plugin 0.8.9, bugfix
release
12/22/2004 01:54 AM
The Java Embedding Plugin is a utility that allows other web browsers than Apple's Safari to use the most recent versions of Java (1.4.X) on Mac OS X. When used together with an updated version of Mozilla's MRJ Plugin Carbon (included in this distribution), the Java Embedding Plugin's functionality is currently available to recent versions of Mozilla, Firefox and Camino. But in principle any web browser could use one of the Java Embedding Plugin's two APIs to add support for Java 1.4.X. Version 0.8.9 of the Java Embedding Plugin fixes several bugs, including some introduced by recent versions -- for example one that sometimes hangs Firefox or Mozilla 1.8a, and another that causes parts of some applets' display to be misaligned. It also eliminates some thread and memory leaks. Embedding With A Lisp

Embedding With A Lisp 07/20/2004 06:00 AM
Embedding With A Lisp By William Wong,  ED Online (Volume 2004, Number 5)
htt p://www.elecdesign.com/Articles/ArticleID/8420/8420.html

"Lisp stands for List Processing, but there have been many other descriptions provided such as Lots of Irritating Superfluous Parentheses. Experienced programmers without Lisp exposure normally go into shock when looking at a Lisp program for the first time, but after a little work Lisp coding becomes natural to the point where other languages now start to look arcane. Trust me. Lisp code is not really totally foreign. Take this little snippet for example.... Assuming you have made it this far, you might be wondering why Lisp has not taken the world by storm. Lisp is actually very old. It is only preceded by Fortran in terms of age for high-level languages. Along the way, Lisp has seen a number of myths built up around it. For example, many consider Lisp to be a language for "artificial intelligence" (AI). While it is true that Lisp is a key language for AI applications, AI is not the only realm for Lisp. Lisp has been used in a range of applications from transportation scheduling to web scripting applications. Emacs was a popular text editor that was based on Lisp."

NeoOffice 1.1 Beta Patch-10 (Java
branch)

NeoOffice 1.1 Beta Patch-10 (Java
branch)
03/22/2005 03:52 PM
Screenshot NeoOffice is a project that is developing a native Mac OS X port of OpenOffice.org with an Aqua look-and-feel. The Cocoa branch (NeoOffice/C) is no longer under development. The Java/Carbon branch (NeoOffice/J) is under active development and is stable enough for daily use. It provides the foundation upon which the user interface can be redesigned to adhere to the conventions of the Aqua Human Interface Guidelines.
Changes:
This release contains a significant new feature: drag-and- drop between Neo/J and other applications. This patch also includes bugfixes for slow text drawing speed, restoring it to pre-Patch-8 levels, and the autocomplete feature, which correctly works with accented characters and no longer overwrites them.

Changes:
This release contains fixes for the text kerning bugs and also contains native menubar performance improvements. In previous patches, it could take up to 10 seconds for the menubar to display a menu in some cases. This patch has reduced that time to only a second or two. This patch also includes a number of other bugfixes.
