Lyra Research’s new report, "Commercial Printing: An Overview of Production and Wide-Format," is essential reading for vendors in the commercial printing market. The report focuses on key trends in commercial printing, including sharp increases in sales of eco-solvent or mild solvent wide-format printers, declining prices for wide-format devices, and inexpensive Chinese wide-format printer products entering the European and U.S. markets. On the narrow-format side, acquisitions by key players have taken center stage. [PRWEB May 18, 2005]

Af ter the Web's Nuclear Winter, Diller Acquires ZeroDegrees?

Is the Web’s ‘Nuclear Winter’ over? And is the warmth of all of the emerging interest in Social Networking Services helping to melt the ice? BusinessWeek’s Timothy Mullaney posits that we might be in a thaw, in an article today about Barry Diller’s [CEO of InterActiveCorp] acquisition of ZeroDegrees — Diller’s Latest Little Bet on the Net — [some other InterActiveCorp companies — Expedia, Hotels.com, Home Shopping Network, Ticketmaster, Evite, Match.com, uDate, Citysearch, LendingTree, and Hotwire.com.]

Diller could make other forays into the social-networking area, says Dan Marriott, an IAC senior vice-president and head of the new-business unit. He says IAC is looking at other dating and social-connection sites, and might make an acquisition if the business can be tied to a classified advertising model, as San Francisco-based Tribe Networks is attempting. “The classified-ad approach Tribe has identified is a valid approach,” said Marriott. “There will be a market there. But we felt the business side is the right place to start.”

Enterprise Social Networking Service Acquired

Barry Diller’s InterActive Corp acquired one of the enterprise social networking services, ZeroDegrees (congrats Jas!). Apparently, he is eyeing consumer social networking services as well. Exit, anyone?

IAC nabs Friendster-like site. InterActiveCorp, media mogul Barry Diller's conglomerate of enterprises ranging from online dating to home loans, has agreed to acquire business networking site ZeroDegrees. [CNET News.com - The Net]

ZeroDegrees acquired by InterActiveCorp. The news is out that ZeroDegrees has been acquired by Barry Diller's InterActiveCorp, which also owns such marquee Internet brands as Expedia and Match.com. "Social-networking technology could also become a more central part of customer-relationship-management software, a business where Diller... [Get Real]

InterActiveCorp Buys ZeroDegrees. ZeroDegrees is one of more than a dozen start-ups that have been launched over the past year in the hope of cashing in on the trend popularized by dating site Friendster. By Reuters. [New York Times: Technology]

Servant Salamander v2.5 Beta 5

Servant Salamander v2.5 Beta 5 05/28/2004 03:39 PM
Servant Salamander is a very popular file manager for Windows 95/98, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000. Its classical two pane design and control are very similar to the widely used DOS version of Norton Commander but because it supports new Windows technologies you can easily use it instead of Windows Explorer. The most important reasons for using Servant Salamander are its simple file and directory operations (using source and target panes), archive support (zip, arj, rar, ace, tar/gzip, etc.), fast text, HTML, and picture (over 40 formats - jpg, gif, bmp, pcx, tga, tiff, etc.) viewers, powerful file searching, changing case of file names, and character set coding (support for national charsets). Sony movie honcho must pay $825,000 for
enslaving his servant
09/06/2004 02:52 PM
Mark Frauenfelder: The Los Angeles County Superior Court ordered James J. Jackson, vice president of legal affairs at Sony Pictures Entertainment, and his wife, Elizabeth, to pay $825,000 to 60-year-old Nena Ruiz, who says she was kept as an indentured servant in the couple's home.
[Ruiz claims she was] emotionally and physically abused and forced to work 18 hours a day at virtually no pay for a year ... she said that Elizabeth Jackson had frequently slapped her and pulled her hair.

During her year at the Jacksons' home, Ruiz said she slept in a sleeping bag on a "dog's bed" on the living room floor and ate days-old food, while she prepared fresh food for her employers' pets.

Demon Customers

Demon Customers 07/06/2004 01:42 PM

Apparently Best Buy and a number of other retail outlets are using all the data they collect on you to determine how profitable you are for them. It's pretty fascinating how data mining is changing the way businesses interact with you.

Every store has customers it doesn't like, he said.

"The question is, how public do you go with it, and how big a deal do you make out of it? There are ways of discouraging people from shopping in your store without point-blank telling them you don't want them in your store."

They define 'bad' customers as those they aren't getting good profits from, like folks who only shop big sales, or those who talk up the sales rep, and then don't buy anything.

I suppose I'm a demon customer since I have made the frightening realization that USB cables aren't made from diamonds!

The sexiest part about the 2850 -- and lets face it, it's sort of a butter face -- is its, uhm, insides, with a browse-by-ID3 tag feature that lets you navigate your library by even semi-obscure ID3 categories like Genre or Year and can even build its own ID3 tag database on the fly -- a first for a standalone player.
