AP - Drug makers raised prescription prices by nearly triple the rate of inflation in the first three months of this year — just before Medicare began its pharmacy discount card program — negating much of the savings the government promised to seniors, according to an AARP survey released Wednesday.

AMD may cut Sempron prices in early May 04/14/2005 06:40 AM
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) plans to lower the unit prices for Socket 754 Sempron processors in early May, with the maximum cut being 15%, according to Taiwan motherboard makers. The price reduction for the entry-level K8-compatible CPUs will help AMD with its plan to phase out its Socket-A processors by the end of the third quarter, according to market sources. However, according to AMD Taiwan, the company will continue producing K7 processors as customers have requested it do so.

Early 2004 Browser Market 04/30/2004 07:19 PM
Previously I’ve posted graphs of the market shares among the browsers visiting ongoing, but I’ll skip the graphics this time because there’s no discernible movement. So far in 2004, the averages are 53% IE, 32% Mozilla family, 12.5% Safari, 2% Opera, they move up and down around that but not in any persistent direction. Go figure.

Except for security fixes, Microsoft has steadfastly refused to make any other updates to IE6 in the past 3 years. A recent court decision has changed that (and even though Microsoft is appealing), they're making limited modifications. Here, we examine what those mean to Web developers. By Jacques Surveyor. 1219

When Lonestar comes out sometime next year - as announced - it will be a free download. A relatively small download too (about, say 10 MB for the core part, not including any updated recognizers that could be released by then). It is user installable. It installs quickly, similar to any other Windows XP update. You can even uninstall it, should you choose to do so. Existing tablet hardware will be able to run it without major problems. Case in point - I am running it on my underpowered Crusoe-cursed first-generation Compaq TC1000, and I can't notice any performance hit.

Has big media jumped the shark?

Has big media jumped the shark? 09/15/2004 03:45 PM
The traditional news organizations have tended to look at the on-line world with a considerable amount of contempt.

Neowin, which has broken many news stories first, has helped lead the charge of the so-called new media. That is, media that moves at Internet speed. Blog sites have done much the same thing.

But respect has been slow coming as there was always the believe that there was something inherently less reliable about the news from a Neowin or a blog site or what not because they don't have the editorial controls that traditional media outlets such as the New York Times or network news have.

This flap over the CBS Bush memos, however, seems to call that all into question. The documents CBS had insisted were authentic seem pretty obvious forgeries and the further third parties investigate, the more it seems that the entire process - the so called "layers of editiorial control" were little more than empty claims.

Here's an article that argues that this CBS memo scandal may be the moment that old media "jumped the shark".
