Best of the Best - Business Web Sites
http://snurl.com/2s54

The Education Committee of the Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) of the American Library Association (ALA) began in 1998 to identify several long-term educational projects that would be developed to fulfill the committee's role of providing educational and developmental opportunities for librarians involved in providing business reference services. The 'Best of the Best' Business Web Sites project was the first of the projects completed in 2000.

The exponential growth of the Internet has resulted in an ever-increasing number of Web sites that offer potentially useful business information to researchers. To assist librarians and business researchers in identifying significant sites, BRASS Education Committee members created this Web page to serve as a subject guide to the 'Best of the Best' business Web sites in a number of broad business categories.

Reach More of the Right People Faster with Less Effort. Business is under pressure now more than ever to do more with less — bigger, better, cheaper, faster. But at what cost? At the cost of human relationships? It doesn't have to be. The internet offers powerful tools to help you find the right people, connect with them, build trust and rapport, and collaborate with them quickly and cost-effectively. This is a good guide with some fine resources. This has been added to my white paper Online Social Networking.

TO RAPID BUSINESS GROWTH: How Emerging

Internet Business Systems to Improve
Profits and Manage Change While Reducing
the Costs and Risks of Expansion
06/23/2004 03:08 AM
It’s a myth that the information technology (IT) requirements of emerging and midsize businesses are simpler than those of large enterprises. Virtually every day, we interact with the technology and business leaders of midsize companies whose IT demands not only rival the requirements of much larger companies, but in many cases exceed them.Fortunately, emerging and midsize businesses can resolve the dilemma of updating their outmoded IT infrastructure without massive one-time investments in technology. New technologies, such as Microsoft® .NET, enable companies to leverage previous investments in technology while step-by-step integrating their business systems to enable an efficient, cost-effective, and flexible solution to driving and managing growth. Netcraft May Survey - 50 Million Web Sites
http://news.netcraft.com/archives /2004/05/03/may_2004_web_server_survey_finds_50_million_sites.html

We now find more than 50 million web sites on the Internet, as the May 2004 survey received http responses from 50,550,965 sites. The milestone caps a period of revived growth for the Internet, coming just 13 months after the survey crossed the 40-million mark in April, 2003. By comparison, it took 21 months for the Web to expand from 30 million to 40 million sites. May was the 16th consecutive month of growth for the Web after a two-year shakeout to absorb the collapse of the dot-com and telecom industries. The upward trend resumed in February 2003, when we detected 35.8 million sites; about the same number as the Dec. 2001 survey. The rebound in total sites tracks the recovery of the larger Internet economy, as viable companies and business models have emerged from the wreckage of the Internet bubble. Common to the Internet Economy 2.0 is a focus on efficiency and cost management that was largely absent during the boom years of 1998-2000. Recent months have seen reports of strong growth for online ad spending, paid subscription sites, online retail spending, and even modest revivals in venture capital investment and dot-com hiring.

How the internet is failing research, or
is it the other way around
03/14/2005 06:11 PM
Last night I listened to a lecture from the dean of the College of Education at University of Central Florida. Her lecture was about the grants the college has been winning, how they're being used, the restrictions grants have on them, and how important research is.

She started talking about how research benefits K-12 education, as you might expect from a College of Education dean, but all I heard was the breakdown between grant research and information dissemination on the Internet. The Internet has certainly not failed in performing secondary information research for K-12 schools. It hasn't failed as a commerce medium or distance education tool.
