Faux company "Geniecorp" makes creepy, icky, biogenetically-engineered household appliances for happy mutant homes of the future. "Lick-n-Span," "Alarm Cock," and "Lhasa Mopso" are but a few. Link to the online shopping mall, full of funny, handsomely-designed Flash animations -- it's all a clever promotional tease for this self-published book. (Thanks, Howard)

Paul O'Neill has backed off from some of the statements I quoted a couple of days ago. Of course, this has resulted in a few e-mail lectures from people who kindly advise that I should just shut my stupid Hollywood liberal mouth and move to France. I'm not planning any relocation, or any self-censorship in the near future, so If you're one of those readers, I kindly advise you to go listen to Rush and come back tomorrow.

Ian Haig is an Australian geek pervert artist who makes wacky, futuristic sex toys from used tech stuff: discarded vacuum cleaners, food processors, and the like. Many of the passers-by who wandered into his booth at the recent Erotica LA expo assumed the devices were intended to be used. A scary prospect, given their appearance, but some people will get off to just about anything. Thankfully, Haig makes the devices for observation only. Think of it as socio-sexual nerdist commentary, with tongue planted firmly in cheek. And just be grateful nobody's trying to stick one of these up your nether-regions.

I shot a couple of photographs of Mr. Haig and his "Futurotica" tools at Erotica LA: one, two.

Los Angeles Times - SOWETO, South Africa — When the first breezes of black freedom rustled across this country, Danny and Gwendoline Maimane had big dreams: More money. A better school for their children. A lift out of this dusty township into one of the lush Johannesburg suburbs reserved for whites. And, maybe, a little more respect.

Boston-area bank suggestion? (Bank of
America is not dog-friendly)
06/22/2005 02:23 AM

My bank has been purchased, for about the fifth time.  Currently it is called "Bank of America."  None of the previous changes of ownership or name bothered me but this time the new color scheme came with "no dogs allowed" signs in the front of every branch office.  I'm not sure that I can stomach 0.2% interest if I can't have a dog at my side to provide some comfort as inflation and corporate looters erode my turbine-powered helicopter fund.  Anyone have a suggestion for a dog-friendly bank in the Boston area?

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has established this facility to promote the search and dissemination of economic research published by central banks.
The facility is built on the principle of crawlers that search research content from selected central banks websites on a daily basis. The Research Hub e-mail alert will keep its users informed about new research published on any of the websites of the participating central banks. Subscribers to the free e-mail alert can select specific topics and reception frequencies to keep their e-mail volumes under control.
The BIS hopes that this facility will make research work on central banking topics more widely accessible to the central banks and the academic community at large. This has been added to Research Resources Subject Tracer™ Information Blog. This will be added to Academic Resources 2004-05 Internet MiniGuide.
