Apple WWDC 2004 Keynote coverage

Apple WWDC 2004 Keynote coverage 06/28/2004 01:11 PM

While there is no webcast, MacMerc will be updating this space as often as possible to bring you all the latest from Steve Job's keynote speech at WWDC 2004. If you have any news tips, please instant message them to jonknee41. Join other MacMerc readers in AIM chat room macmerc1.

  • Tiger
    • Dev watch: Core Image, Core Video crunch numbers with the GPU instead of the CPU.
    • Safari will have new features, including RSS, Jobs must not know about NetNewsWire.
    • MPEG h264 (not a shocker)
    • System Prefs now use Spotlight instead of top menu bar.
    • One of the best: better searching. Spotlight is iTunes like searching for the whole computer. Full indexes, even for PDFs. System wide, search from anywhere.
    • Over 150 new features
    • Fully 64-bit
  • Tiger will ship in first half of 2005
  • New 20" display in same design, $1,299.
  • New 30" display, biggest ever. 2560 x 1600. Same design as the other new displays today. FireWire and USB, 4 megapixels. Needs PowerMac, 2 DVI connections to run (card costs $600). $3,299.
  • New 23" display, all aluminum, like the ThinkSecret mock ups. ADC is gone from the displays.
  • The online Apple Store just went down--we have new stuff coming.
  • 3,500 developers at WWDC, 17% more than last year

WWDC Keynote hints at iMac in Paris

WWDC Keynote hints at iMac in Paris 07/10/2004 03:05 PM
The WWDC KeyNote's Spotlight presentation seems to hint at the iMac making it's debut at Apple Expo Paris.
  1. Steve starts by searching for iMac pictures, but doesn't show any
  2. He then searches in the address book for Paris and Birthdays comming up
  3. He then goes to mail his search brings up "Vacation 8/4 to 8/7" and "Half-Dome". The Expo ends 8/4(ship date?), and the half-dome is a reference to the current iMac.
  4. Finally he searches using the menu bar for Paris and half-dome, and notes that it only comes up with places.
