The Federal Communications Commission ( FCC ) refused to allow business to compete for spots in the Instructional Television Fixed Service ( ITFS ), a part of the electromagnetic spectrum reserved for educational use since 1962. Such a move had been sought based on the underutilization of that part of the spectrum, but opposed by education groups .

The FCC's decision came during an allocation of spectrum for more wireless usage.

Griffin Technology Inc. on Tuesday introduced the iVault, an aluminum case designed for Apple's iPod shuffle. The iVault allows access to the control wheel, audio jack, on switch, USB port and LED.
