Return to Return of the King

Return to Return of the King 01/25/2004 09:30 AM
(I just blogged this at BlogCritics.org) We went to see Return of the King for the second time last night because our 13-year-old wanted to see it for his third time. My pre-VCR generation has trouble being entertained by a movie more than once, but there are exceptions. Lord of the Rings is one: Giant trolls, gargantuan elephants, catapults firing heads, fierce bad guys with faces made out of cookie dough, fire-tipped battering rams, stirring music, flying dragons, all in one scene. What more do you want in a movie? Even though it was my second time, I still...

England Libraries May All Get Wi-Fi

England Libraries May All Get Wi-Fi 12/04/2003 01:07 PM
The majority of libraries in England already have broadband access but now the government is working on adding Wi-Fi: Most of the libraries in King County, outside of Seattle, have Wi-Fi. It's a great, low-cost way for libraries to offer Internet access without having to provide computers for everyone. But I wonder how many of the people I see waiting in line there actually have laptops that they could bring with them instead....

Well things didn't go as I'd hoped for the Sox opener (Pedro and the boys lost 7-2 against Baltimore), but at least the UConn women won against Minnesota and are on their way to the NCAA finals against Tennessee tomorrow night. Go Huskies! Watching the women play last night was amazing, and the improvement in the women's game even in the past five years is really something. Great ball movement, fakes, no-look passes -- it's a pleasure to watch.

And I'm back.

This is just a quicky because I'm paying five pounds an hour for 'net access in Starbucks. England isn't as wireless as I had hoped. I'm going to be mostly offline for the next few days getting my affairs in order and readapting to life this side of the pond.

I've had a fantastic year and I'll be sure to write something up about it once I have access to a cheaper Internet connection.
