Treo Ace: Please Be Legit

Treo Ace: Please Be Legit

Treo Ace: Please Be Legit 06/25/2004 10:32 AM

treo_ace.jpg imageSo I've been waiting to get some additional confirmation, but as nothing else is panning out, there's no need to hold back the news. TreoCentral has a boatload of information about a very-legit looking Treo 610, which they are calling the "Treo Ace." The short list is very appealing: slightly smaller form factor, 320 by 320 screen, working Bluetooth, context-sensitive "soft buttons," more phone-like red/end, green/send buttons, a 312MHz processor, and a 1.3-megapixel camera, all running on top of Palm OS 5.4 (Garnet). Which is to say, yes, we are aroused in a humorous but unoffensive to sensitive readers way. Making it sound even more legitimate is the mention that the new Treo will have only 32MB of RAM, an egregious shortcoming that most tricksters would be too hesitant to pepper their fake with, even if it does season it with some needful reality. Anyway, hot.

Oakley Thump MP3 Sunglasses Legit

Oakley Thump MP3 Sunglasses Legit 07/13/2004 09:01 AM

oakley_thump.jpg imageSo I wasted way too much time this morning looking for a better picture of these Oakley "Thump" MP3 Sunglasses, but so far it looks like they exist soley in press release hell. They are official now, though, which is something, although at $400 for a 128MB version and $500 for a 256MB version, I seriously doubt many people are going to be interested in owning a pair. Perhaps when they inevitably drop to discount prices. There is also a rumor that another model may be introduced incorporating Bluetooth and a microphone in the nosebridge, but current prototypes have been too unwieldy.

The Thumps should be in Circuit Cities by the holidays. Of course, if anyone finds a better picture than the one we ran yesterday, let me know. (Thanks everyone who sent this in.)

Spammers Using Authentication Faster
Than Legit Emailers
08/31/2004 05:28 PM
It's still quite early in the effort to get email servers to use some form of authentication. While the focus lately has been about all the various standards, and which one is going to get adopted, many still question whether or not sender authentication actually does anything to stop spam. A recent study certainly suggests that spammers don't think so. It notes that more spam than legitimate email is currently using sender authentication. That's right. While most companies are still figuring out exactly what's going on, spammers are pushing ahead and publishing their own authentication records -- and then spamming away. It doesn't build much confidence.

07/12/2004 07:39 AM

se_910_layla.jpg imageThere's not much to go on at the moment, but one of the Mobile9 forum users posted some purported images of the upcoming Sony Ericsson refresh, the P910. After all the hub bub surrounding the original leaked 'Layla' information, I don't think it's going out on a limb too much to say that these are probably legit -- or the work of a very talented hoaxer. With Sony pulling out of the PDA market (everywhere but Japan), it's reasonable to expect them to start pushing cellular handset upgrades through faster and faster. Of course, that would imply that one organization inside of Sony knows what the other is doing, which is sort of ridiculous, right? Tons more images on Mobile9, if you need more convincing.

Treo all better!

Treo all better! 04/09/2004 04:03 PM
As suddenly as it appeared, my Treo problems have suddenly stopped.  I brought it into my office this morning, and when I took it out to call the replacement service, it was working fine.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that whatever happened has corrected itself

My New Treo 600

My New Treo 600 03/08/2004 11:18 PM
Well, it was a close call between the PalmOne Treo 600 and the Sony Ericsson P900, but I've gone with the Treo. The P900 has a much better Web browser, a better camera, better multitasking and in many ways a better user interface. But the Treo has a thumb-keyboard, which for me is essential, and zillions of Palm OS applications that run nicely and enhance the device.

Cingular Treo 650 Soon 01/06/2005 02:56 PM

OMFG Worst. Trip. Ever. I'm at CES finally, though, and have big, big stuff to talk about. Expect short, bursty posts—not because I don't want to dazzle you with my dick jokes, but because there's just so much to cover, both CES and not.

Here's a little blurp: Cingular's rebate form for the Treo 600 has a check box for the Treo 650 even though it expires January 31st. If that doesn't mean it's going to be out that month, they mean it's going to be out real soon now.

Sidekick Vs. Treo 600

Sidekick Vs. Treo 600 07/30/2004 09:56 AM

I'm a fan of both the Sidekick and the Treo 600, so when Levi Wallach wrote to tell me about his in-depth comparison article featuring the two keyboarded messenger devices, I immediately did what any sane person would do and read it and then forgot to post about it. Fortunately for you, that was only like last week, and the information is no less pertinent. In fact, with the Sidekick II and the Treo Ace/610 just around the corner, bargain-minded shoppers would do well to pay extra attention to the two devices that are still plenty capable and about to get plenty cheap.

Treo woes

Treo woes 04/09/2004 04:03 PM
My beloved Treo 600 is suddenly on the fritz.  It makes and receives calls, but whenever I turn it off and on, it locks in the keyguard mode.  Shutting off keyguard didn't help, nor did soft and hard resets.  This is something serious.  Time to call the equipment replacement program, which fortunately I signed up for.

We hope to have these issues resolved in a timely matter and should be releasing this device sometime in December. So T-Mobile subscribers lusting after the Treo 600 are either going to have wait a little while longer, buy an unlocked Treo 600 and hope it works, or switch to another carrier....
