Boinx seeks a name for slideshow creator
Untitled App
06/24/2004 02:26 PM
"Untitled" may work for photographers, painters and musicians, but not for software. That's why Boinx Software announced on Thursday that it's seeking a new name for its slideshow creation software Untitled App, which is currently available as a Public Preview. The person who submits the best name before July 17 will win an Apple iSight, licenses for all Boinx products and an honorary mention in the newly-named application's About Box. Contest rules and an entry form are available on the Boinx Web site. The company hasn't provided a ship date yet, but Public Preview license codes expire Sept. 30, and anyone who wants to buy a license for the final version before it ships can currently save US$10 off the $79 price.

iTunes music ruins Apple slideshows

iTunes music ruins Apple slideshows 03/19/2005 03:03 AM
Cory Doctorow: If you include Apple iTunes Music Store songs in your iMovie/iPhoto slideshows, you're boned if you try to send the slideshows to friends.
"When you purchase a song from the iTunes Music Store and you use that song to create a slideshow in iPhoto or use it as an audio track in a movie you create in iMovie, you would expect that your movies & slideshows would work when you email them to other people.

"But no! Not only does Apple NOT let your recipients view your iMovie movies or your iPhoto slideshows, but the worst part about it is that YOU DO NOT receive a warning when creating these slideshows or movies in iPhoto or iMovie.

"Imagine burning your slideshow or movie onto a CD and distributing them to a bunch of people, only to be embarrassed later that none of your recipients can actually view the movie."

Users receive the message "This computer is not authorized to play the file nameofmovie.mov."

Making Slideshows

Making Slideshows 08/17/2004 05:40 PM
Comparing photo slideshow computer applications, Thomas E. Weber writes for the Wall Street Journal, “Those using an Apple computer won’t need to agonize over which slideshow program to choose. Apple’s excellent iLife package ($49; included with new Macs) is all they’ll need. Users can construct slideshows in the package’s easy-to-use iDVD program or move slideshows from iPhoto into iDVD for burning onto a disc. For more effects, the iMovie video-editing software can add panning and zooming motion.” [Aug 17]
