project leadership and community
02/07/2005 01:44 AMIn Free Software development, we sometimes see a smart person alone
creates a useful program, and as its popularity grows, more people
become interested and get involved. The response of the original
author to the growing popularity at this stage plays a critical role
in whether the program continues to succeed or fail, or end up in
multiple forks, due to different visions of the original author and
the new people. What is the best strategy on the part of the original
author to maintain the community and continuing successes while
incorporating the new energy?

things as blogs, news, FAQs, articles, links, and tutorials. If you
would like to contribute, please contact Chris Shiflett, who is
coordinating this project. There is a need for every type of

Web Services using Krysalis (pdf)
03/20/2003 02:06 PMYou might wonder why using Krysalis and learning this quite
different way of serving dynamic web pages. The main
reasons are: flexibility, reusability and easy maintenance.
The flexibility comes from the Model-View-Controller approach that
adapts easily to any kind of change. The reusability
is implemented with taglibs, XML aggregation and intelligent pipeline
definitions. And the maintenance of a Krysalis
web application is also much higher that a regular PHP page, because
the application logic is separated from the
presentation layer, thus they can be managed independently.
Another important Krysalis advantage is the possibility of using the
same application logic for multiple outputs. This
will allow the developer to create the application logic once and
output the format in any desired format.
I've never studied the Krysalis architecture till now and the guys at
Interakt are great, but my taste runs to something simpler than this.

04/30/2004 04:35 PMThis reference explains how to use the PDS Application Programming
Interface (API) to allow client applications to access Project Server
portfolio data. Client applications can programmatically log on to
Project Server and use SOAP to call PDS API methods. The PDS
implements a SOAP listener, which receives method calls in XML format
and returns an XML response.

03/19/2003 10:27 PMAnd Here's What the Community Did
Well not only was I busy this weekend but others were too.
Here are some of the highlights:
The FurryGoat (I love that
name) tells you how to add Feedster to Internet Explorer's search
options using TweakUI. [_Go_]
Feedster is increasingly being added as an option right next to the
"Google It" links on blogs. That's high praise. Here are
some examples:
- FurryGoat
- BunkoSquad (thanks Sooz!)
- Vicky (a cool
multi search engine interface)
- (If you're adding Feedster to your blog like this, drop us a line
and we'll link to you / add you to a list of "Blogs Supporting
Feedster" that's coming out soon)
Ben Meadowcraft
of the Mozilla Mycroft
project is working on adding Feedster support to Mozilla's ability to
drive Apple's Sherlock. I'm not 100% sure on the status of this
since I haven't personally tested it but if you want the .src and .png
files for it drop me a line. If Ben says its ok, I'll link to
them as well.
The Amazing US contributed a
really nice CSS design for our results that while we haven't had time
to implement yet is coming. Thanks!
I'm sure there's more going that I'm missing but this is a
blog. There's always more!

this time as a corporate blogger in support of a new venture called
OpenXource(tm). Services include an interesting new blog called

OpenXource will assist companies who want to release open source

develop an open source strategy. Sounds like a great idea to me, so
