ill advised statements suggesting that
public car insurance is the kind of socialist claptrap the forced
Pinochet to stage a coup in Chile. Let us further posit that you were

be pretty sure you hadn't plagiarized large chunks of your essay from the web?

Creating a Real-Time Enterprise
04/06/2005 02:07 AMEnterprise applications that were once confined to the corporate
headquarters are now widely distributed to users across the extended
enterprise. In this environment, it is critical that businesses
deliver these applications in real time. After all, poor performance
is no longer an annoying inconvenience; it can have a serious impact
the business as a whole. [PRWEB Apr 6, 2005]

07/20/2004 12:54 PMSmall Town Software announced on Tuesday the release of
Time and
Budgets, a new application that integrates with Apple's iCal
application to supply time and budgeting functions for projects. The
software also works with any calendar program that supports WebDAV
(Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning), which means .Mac
subscribers can use iCal with the online service to seamlessly input
data and generate reports that convert time into dollars and cents
that can be compared against a project's budget. Available reports in
Time and Budgets include time sheets with visual charts, details about
time logged in specific phases and tasks, aggregate workgroup feedback
and more. Another option can generate e-mail alerts when projects have
reached certain financial goals.

I mean it this time
I mean it this time
12/30/2003 01:16 AMSo I didn't stop
with Microsoft as I said I would. I got carried away by
conversation with other blogs, etc. But as I'm writing a reply to
Robert's comment on my previous
post about XAML, I just came to a simple realization.
I suddenly saw that what I was asking is sort of a pointless
question. It's interesting to speculate, yes. It's also useless.
Yes, my point was... err... pointless.
When Longhorn ships, we might be able to look at this in a new
light. Right now it's complete extrapolation, in this case on my part,
guided by what I see and by previous MS behavior. Robert keeps saying
(as I understand it) that MS is not out to "kill the web", etc. Many
people (and to a degree myself included) think that isn't true, based
on previous "attempts". Now, Microsoft may be trying for something
different this time, or it might not. Either way, we'll see in a
couple of years. In the meantime, talking about the potential market
effects of a technology that hasn't yet been finished, running on a
platform that won't be released for at least two years, with some
components that don't yet exist, is an excercise in futility.
I can avoid jumping the gun by waiting until it is actually
released and people start using it for actual applications. Until
then, two words should be enough to stop myself going down this road
further: "Netscape Constellation."

01/07/2004 03:11 PMThe origins of the term "inside baseball" are in one writer's view of

migrated so easily to politics. The inside, said James, is a hall of
mirrors.

England Libraries May All Get Wi-Fi
12/04/2003 01:07 PMThe majority of libraries in England already have broadband access but
now the government is working on adding Wi-Fi: Most of the libraries
in King County, outside of Seattle, have Wi-Fi. It's a great, low-cost
way for libraries to offer Internet access without having to provide
computers for everyone. My library always has a line of people waiting
to get on its computers so perhaps with Wi-Fi some people could come
in with their own computers to use the Internet. But I wonder how many
of the people I see waiting in line there actually have laptops that
they could bring with them instead....
