Et tu, Comdex?

Et tu, Comdex? 06/23/2004 03:40 PM

Yesterday, the mother of all pop music fests -- Lollapalooza -- was canceled. Today, the mother of all tech trade shows -- Comdex. Wow. Fans of Sonic Youth and Morrrissey who have a penchant for middleware schwag are double-bummed. Link (Thanks, Michael Slavitch)

COMDEX Cancelled Once Again

COMDEX Cancelled Once Again 03/30/2005 02:09 PM
Once a conference staple of the IT industry, COMDEX has been cancelled for the second year in a row. Its new organizers, MediaLive International, confirmed the Las Vegas show will not take place due to lackluster interest from exhibitors. January's CES has now become the conference of choice for the industry.

Oh, Hey, It's Comdex Time

Oh, Hey, It's Comdex Time 11/14/2003 01:49 PM
Remember back in the days when Comdex was actually a big show worth going to? Even then, I remember people whining that it's best days were behind it. Yet, it keeps on going. This year's Comdex is gett ing ready to start in a greatly toned down manner - and with competi tion from a new rival. I'm still not sure I understand the strategy for the new Computer Digital Expo. If Comdex is a failed show, having trouble attracting people, how does it make sense to start up another, nearly identical show, at the same time? Meanwhile, all of the hot Vegas tradeshow buzz has moved out of November and into January when CES gets underway.

Last Gasps for Comdex?

Last Gasps for Comdex? 06/23/2004 05:34 PM

The people running the Comdex trade show say they're "postponing" this year's event. If it ever returns in anything like its previous form I'll be amazed. The era for Comdex came and went. I'm sorry to see some people lose their jobs, but not that the show is, at best, on life support.

Comdex Canceled

Comdex Canceled 06/23/2004 07:07 PM

What used to be the world's greatest premier technology trade-show Comdex has canceled the show this year. It's really to bad but I suppose vendors are re-directing their focus to shows that are devoted to their particular product line.

Comdex Forfeits... Again

Comdex Forfeits... Again 04/02/2005 04:16 PM
Comdex, once the pinnacle of technology shows, was losing its spark for years. Attendance, both show-floor visitors and vendors, was dropping faster than Enron stock. So, the show producers gave out that they were dropping the show ‘to tweak it a little’. That was two years ago. Their word is now that it will return in 2006. Why? Can’t they tell that Gnomedex is everything that Comdex SHOULD be? Don’t let yourself fall into the…

CES Kills Comdex

CES Kills Comdex 06/23/2004 03:40 PM
For years, people have pointed out that Comdex just doesn't have the same pull it used to. Many people thought that there wouldn't be a Comdex last year after its parent company, Key3Media went bankrupt and other, competing shows, jumped in to take its place. The show still happened, though without much interest. Apparently, the interest is even less this year, and there will be no Comdex this year. They claim that it will come back the following year, but I wouldn't bet too much money on that happening. In the meantime, everyone had already shifted their Las Vegas conference travel plans to January's CES anyway, so it's unlikely this will actually impact anyone.
