top 10 Fedex customers in the state of Hawaii and the guy I rely on to

a dozen queries a day from people outside the office wondering where a
package is. This is a major score. [www.benhammersley.com]

FedEx Buying Kinko's
FedEx Buying Kinko's
12/30/2003 02:48 PMFedEx has stepped up to
buy Kinko's for $2.4 billion. It's an interesting move,
and sort of one-ups UPS, who bought Mailboxes Etc. a few years ago,
and have been increasingly trying to turn them into more of a Kinko's
style competitor. There are definite synergies in the two companies,
and it will be interesting to see what sort of changes FedEx makes to
Kinko's over time. For now, they say they're keeping management in
place.

Apple Shipping and FedEx Lameness
09/14/2004 02:48 PMFor the second day in a row now, I'm "stuck" working from home because
of stupidity on the part of both Apple and FedEx. You see, last week I
ordered a second power adaptor for my Powerbook. Despite the fact that
Apple really rapes you on the price ($80 for a power adaptor?! Is it
gold plated?), I could really use a second one. However, the Apple
Store seems to send even the most trivial purchases via FedEx with

FedEx Starts Their Own Research
Institute
11/19/2003 04:36 PMApparently, the innovative work coming out of various universities
wasn't enough to keep the shipping business up to speed. If you've
ever seen or heard about the backend technology operations that keep
UPS or FedEx running, you already know how incredibly complex and
sophisticated they are. And, no one is slowing down. FedEx has now
launched their own FedEx Institute of Technology to do
more bleeding edge research on things that might someday impact how
they get a package from point A to point B. They're looking at ways
to improve the basic shipping process as well as any number of related
areas - such as making airplanes more efficient or creating
artificially intelligent customer service agents. The Institute,
which is being set up in association with University of Memphis, isn't
just supposed to help FedEx, either, but other corporations are
encouraged to take part as well. It sounds like the next extension of
the issue we were just talking about where some feel that
Univers
ities are too close to the tech companies that support them. Now,
they're even building research institutes specifically to deal with
their problems.

FedEx Studying Robot Cargo Planes
FedEx Studying Robot Cargo Planes
02/05/2005 09:44 PMAn article
in the Memphis Business Journal describes research being done at the
FedEx
Institute of Technology to develop robot cargo planes that don't
need pilots. The article doesn't give any specifics about the program
but says it's "on the horizon". It may refer to the experiments some
years ago in which Raytheon and FedEx autolanded
a 727-200 cargo plane using LAAS and JPALS. At the time it was
rumored they were going to work on a remotely piloted 727 next. The
article says
FedEx is also working on "performance enhancement" technology for
their
human workers that will "increase the human capacity to accomplish
more
work".
