Pittsburgh suburb
06/23/2004 12:35 PM

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Quaker Valley School Board voted unanimously to approve a US$3.1 million lease that will put about 1,200 Apple desktop and laptop machines in place for students attending the district's high schools. The lease expands a three year old computer literacy initiative already in place that's put laptops in the hands of students in grades 3 - 12. With this expansion, laptop and desktop computers will be available for use in libraries, computer labs and on mobile computing carts throughout the district's elementary and middle schools.

Henrico County, Va.'s school board has turned down an offer by Apple to renew and extend its lease on 18,000 iBooks currently in use throughout the school system's secondary grades, reports the Richmond Times-Dispatch. For the short term, this simply means that students returning to Henrico County schools for the 2004 - 2005 academic year will use the same iBooks they had last year.

Oh, this linked interview with Jessica Cutler is safe for work, actually, but it still is, you know, Playboy, so fair warning. (Thanks, Sauril!)
