You Gotta be KIDDING me... 12/12/2003 02:00 PM
We're filthy rich - now help us!! This is mostly an artice about Kyoto, but one little paragraph left my jaw wide open to see that OPEC thinks they should be compensated if the world finds a better way... I guess it's not a unique concept though - does anyone have some other examples of a (potentially) failing industry that wants compensation?? My apologies if I've missed this in another thread somewhere...

RE-ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS (NO
KIDDING)
01/22/2004 02:12 AM
A friend of mine in executive recruiting is looking for a substantial number of consultants in, believe it or not, business process re-engineering. Requirements include a good general knowledge of the discipline, willingness to travel very extensively, and an ability to deal comfortably with senior executives. The positions are mostly full-time, starting ASAP, and the work is all over North America. Salary is in the high five figures Canadian. Probably of greatest interest to the young and unattached, but I thought I'd ask anyway. If you're interested, e-mail me your CV, any requirements/conditions, and any companies you don't want to receive your info.

Biometric Mod Cabinet

Biometric Mod Cabinet 08/10/2004 04:18 PM

mod_cabinet.jpg imageThe Mod Cabinet from glide is a smallish cabinet with a built-in biometric fingerprint sensor that allows you to lock down access to only those pre-approved. Even better (or worse, from a security standpoint) there is a Bluetooth wireless link for configuring the Mod Cabinet from across the room using the customer PC or Pocket PC software. You can also purchase the cabinet without locks or biometric sensor, but what's the fun in that?

Buying biometrically into big brother? Privium is an IBM-backed pay service at Amsterdam's Schipho l Airport that allows passengers to identify themselves by iris recognition and thus speed their way through security checks. This being the privacy-respecting Netherlands, the biometric information is not stored in a central database, but only on a card you carry with you; other countries may not be so enlightened. This could well become a standard form of identification. In the meantime, could the failure to buy this service qualify someone as a security or insurance risk?

HP Ships Biometric Laptop

HP Ships Biometric Laptop 06/24/2005 08:27 PM
Biometric technology is taking another leap toward widespread usage as Hewlett-Packard Co. ships new laptops with fingerprint readers.

The nx6125 notebook PC includes a fingerprint sensor made by AuthenTec Inc., which says HP is the biggest computer maker to offer a biometric reader as standard equipment. The computer, aimed at the business market, sells for $1,000 and up.

Fingerprint biometrics are a more secure and convenient alternative to passwords, which are often forgotten or stolen. But only in recent years has the technology's accuracy improved to the point where it could confidently be deployed in a wide range of consumer applications.
