posting on the Google Blog News Channel: What Search Engines Do Search
Engine Companies Use? That posting summarizes a lot of data from
VisitorVille Intelligence, specifically looking at which search
companies use which search services. The thing that everyone seemed to
notice was this: Finally, at Yahoo, 68.9% of employees use Yahoo, but
a still-strong 29.8% use Google (compare that to Google’s 100%

04/11/2005 05:52 PMWhile we were surprised that the AFP

Google for daring to link to sites that carried their articles, we
figured that other news agencies/wires couldn't be quite that
clueless. However, it appears that Google's willingness to
back
down over the issue has caught the attention of the Associated
Press who has apparently
c
ontacted Google expressing concern over links from Google News to AP
stories and suggesting that Google News buy a license. Hopefully,
Google calls their bluff. Google isn't breaking any laws by linking
to other sites, and, in fact, they're
bringing more visitors to
sites that carry AP news. Perhaps the AP should go talk to some AFP
customers who are
furio
us they've been removed from Google News, taking away much of
their traffic. Chances are, though, that this is just the AP being
opportunistic, figuring that they might as well see if Google will
pony up for a license they clearly don't need just to avoid any more
controversy.

In my opinion, forcing Microsoft to ship media
player-less Windows won't have any effect on Microsoft's
media format dominance.
Instead, Microsoft should have been forced to place media player IP

public domain as well as bundle several competitive media
players. Of course,

Microsoft Windows Media Player 10
09/03/2004 08:18 AMThe most striking change to Microsoft Windows Media Player 10, the
much-awaited upgrade to the player/jukebox that ships on most new PCs,
is its dramatic cosmetic overhaul. Windows Media Player (WMP) no
longer feels like a freebie utility thrown in with the OS (think
Notepad), but is an application you'll actually want to use. By giving
you easy access to all of your multimedia files (music, photos, and
video) and helping you accomplish the tasks you're likely to want to
do with them, WMP 10 at least equals — and in our estimation
surpasses — the current leader in the field, MusicMatch Jukebox 9.
Removing Windows Media Player
Removing Windows Media Player
07/02/2004 01:22 AMMicrosoft apparently requires “greater clarification” on
which specific files need to be removed so that it can comply with the
EU’s court ruling. Microsoft has been ordered to remove
it’s Media Player from Windows immediately, but apparently this
has caused some confusion.
Now if someone asks me to remove a program from my computer, I know
that I am competent enough to understand what “files need to
removed”. I believe this is just another Microsoft stall tactic
and should be looked upon as such.
