It was just over a week ago that Apple introduced its iTunes Music Store to consumers in the UK, Germany and France. On Wednesday, Apple announced that during its first full week of operation, the iTunes Music Store sold 800,000 songs to users in those countries. More than 450,000 songs were sold in the UK alone.

Music fans have purchased and downloaded a record-setting 3.3 million songs from the new iTunes Music Store since its launch one week ago. iTunes users have already published more than 20,000 iMixes, and those iMixes have been rated by fellow iTunes users over 50,000 times. Apple said Wednesday that its iTunes Music Store set a new download record of 3.3 million songs in the week since the third-generation store was introduced. 500,000 of those downloads came in the form of free songs from popular commercial artists made available as part of a "Free Song of the Day" promotion to celebrate the store's one-year anniversary. Last week Apple said the iTunes Music Store currently sells 2.7 million songs per week. Subtracting the free songs, this suggests that the store's weekly business may have been slightly more brisk than usual.
