Judge Says Oracle Can Keep On Annoying
Peoplesoft With Bids
09/09/2004 08:14 PM
While the Department of Justice had said that an Oracle takeover of Peoplesoft would harm competition a federal judge has just announced that the DOJ had not proven its case, thus allowing Oracle to keep on trying to take over Peoplesoft. Of course, that doesn't mean they're actually going to get Peoplesoft, as the company has pretty effectively been pushing aside each and every bid. So far, the whole merger attempt has done nothing but slow down both companies.

Oracle Lowers PeopleSoft Bid

Oracle Lowers PeopleSoft Bid 05/17/2004 09:09 AM

Oracle lowers PeopleSoft bid to $7.7 billion: After raising the bid twice, (the last time just two months ago — and that just four months after saying they weren't going any higher), they're now lowering it. I can't even speculate on the implications of this.

Business software maker Oracle reduced its hostile takeover bid for rival PeopleSoft to $7.7 billion Friday, shaving nearly 20%, or $1.7 billion, from its previous offer to reflect its prey's wilting market value.

Oracle Says It Has Control of PeopleSoft 12/30/2004 12:38 AM
I thought the soap opera was over and I’d have to go cold turkey - but I guess I’m being let down easy…Free registration required to read the story. Business software maker Oracle Corp. (ORCL.O) on Wednesday said it has taken control of rival PeopleSoft Inc. (PSFT.O) now that about 75 percent of its rival’s shareholders have tendered their shares. PeopleSoft’s board earlier this month reluctantly agreed to a sweetened $10.3 billion buyout by Oracle,…

Oracle-PeopleSoft: Why the Delay

Oracle-PeopleSoft: Why the Delay 12/19/2004 03:18 PM
(This is also my col umn todayin the San Jose Mercury News, and an update on yesterday's brief comment.) Monday morning's newsthat Oracle will buy PeopleSoft for a small premium over Oracle's most recent offer was almost the ultimate in anticlimaxes. It was a given, once the U.S. antitrust lawsuit against the deal failed in early fall, that a buyout would happen unless an unexpected white knight showed up to buy PeopleSoft.
