Sendo X Finally Graces Rest of Europe

Sendo X Finally Graces Rest of Europe 06/22/2004 09:26 AM

sendox_13.jpg imageThe Sendo X smartphone has begun rolling out in Europe, hitting France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain this month, with the rest of that heathen continent to get the unit throughout the rest of the summer. The tri-band phone is a Series 60 piece with extensions by Sendo, supports all the standard polyphonic ringtones and MP3s we'd expect from a Symbian phone, as well as Bluetooth and USB and a VGA camera. Slashphone has a mess of pictures if you're interested in giving it a closer eye. The Sendo X is a nice phone, but it's behind the times.

Sendo X UK Review

Sendo X UK Review 06/29/2004 08:49 AM

sendo02.jpg imageOur friends at AllAboutSymbian have their review of the late to the game Sendo X, calling it the most desirable Series 60 handset in the world -- this despite the fact that the Sendo X is a Series 60 1.2 phone, and not a 2.0 model. One of its strong suits, they say, is that it looks like a phone, and not an "escapee from the Concept Labs," although the 5-way joypad still leaves something to be desired (it's too easy to hit the wrong button). Another interesting bit is an integrated white LED "flash" that can be used to illuminate a scene without the sucking down the battery like a traditional flash would. All around it looks like an extremely well thought-out phone, and AllAboutSymbian gives it a well thought-out review.

Microsoft settle with Sendo

Microsoft settle with Sendo 09/14/2004 07:32 AM
Mobile device maker, Sendo, have agreed an out of court settlement with industry giant, Microsoft. The specifics of the agreement have not been disclosed, yet is purported to be around the hundreds of millions mark. Sendo are "extremely pleased with the terms".

The dispute arose over a partnership between the two companies. Sendo helped Microsoft into the mobile phone market, where it lacked expertise. After developing software with Sendo, supposedly Microsoft illegally gave information learned from Sendo to low cost OEM's in Asia. The two companies broke up 2 weeks before product launch, and Sendo sued Microsoft soon after.

Microsoft have long accepted lawsuits as part of its business model, and the payout might register as a blip on this years profit levels. Sendo intend to move onto to new products and technologies, and undoubtedly now have a good financial base to do this.

XML for the rest of us

XML for the rest of us 12/22/2003 12:34 PM
adam bosworth
"The relational database is designed to serve up rows and columns," said BEA's Adam Bosworth in his keynote talk. "But our model of the world is documents. It's 'Tell me everything I want to know about this person or this clinical trial.' And those things are not flat, they're complex. Now we have the way to get not only the hospital records and prescriptions but also the doctor's write-ups."

The doctors and bankers will get that, just as the highway patrolmen already do. XML documents, flowing through XML plumbing, can now deliver very real and tangible benefits. For the publishing geeks who started it all, it's a moment to savor. [Full story at InfoWorld.com]
By the way, Adam Bosworth said a great many other interesting things in his XML 2003 talk. For those of you not inclined to watch this QuickTime clip -- and in particular for the search crawlers -- I would like to enter the following quote into the public record. ...
