09/24/2004 03:36 AM
German developer Iwas EDV Consulting announced on Thursday the release of GarageSale, a client application that helps you create and track your eBay auctions. It's certified for use with eBay's online auction system and features a WYSIWYG description editor, integration with iPhoto for direct importing of auction images, the ability to export and share your auction templates and more. In addition, its built-in Web browser allows you to view your current auctions without leaving the application. A license is US$24.99, but you can upload up to three eBay auctions before you have to pay for GarageSale. The developer did not provide system requirements, although they did confirm that the software runs in Mac OS X.

What webl0gs are news?

What webl0gs are news? 10/29/2003 01:13 AM

Every so often I hear from a person with a weblog who has asked to be included in Google News, was turned down, and is not happy about it. I understand this must be difficult for Google, how do they decide? Some of their choices are puzzling. And it seems to matter what CMS is used. If it's weblog software, it can't be included, if they use a more expensive CMS, they can? If it's one person writing, they can't; if there's more than one they can?

Here's what they say when rejecting a site for inclusion in Google News: "Thank you for your email. We have reviewed [url] but can not include it in Google News at this time. We currently do not include news-related blogs. If there is a non-blog news site associated with this movement, we would be happy to review it. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us and will log your site for consideration should our constraints change."

Has your site been turned down by Google News? Comment here. Doc Searls is also interested in this question.

News Sites, Where the Men Are

News Sites, Where the Men Are 08/04/2004 04:43 AM
The online news business has a curious imbalance: Far more men read news on the Web than women. For online publishers seeking to steal advertising money from TV, this is a boon. But editors are worried something is off kilter with online news. By Laila Weir.

CyberJournalist. net: 101 ways to improve your news site: Some great suggestions here on how to improve news Web sites. I emailed this link to the Webmasters of the big three news stations here in Sioux Falls.

Post a form at the end of a breaking news story asking witnesses to send in details of what they saw — and then add the information you can verify to the story. I know what I do when I encounter a news site that requires registration I go elsewhere. Why do I want to entrust a news company with my personal demographic information when I can read the same story on a news site that does not require registration. Wired takes a look at sites offering ways to bypass site registration and Techdirt offers commentary on the sheer stupidity of news sites that hide their content from behind a login.
