Tribe Blog
03/08/2004 11:26 PMI convinced the folks at Tribe.net to start a company blog.
Here
it is.
You'll notice I'm posting to this blog. Others will as well -
such as Mark Pincus - company CEO, Paul Martino - co-founder and
company CTO and others - like Walter Thompson - the big cheese of
community affairds at Tribe.
I think this is important - not just 'cause Tribe is supporting RSS
and Jabber (and soon FOAF.)
It's important 'cause this is a real example of REAL corporate
blogging - with a company conciously using the blogosphere to get
their message out there.

Charles Shaw, Die!
03/08/2004 11:03 PMOh, how I love this. There's an actual tribe on Tribe.net called
"Anti-Two-Buck-Chuck," for people who are sick of other people
bringing
the
infamous brand of dollar-ninety-nine wine from Trader Joe's to
parties and potlucks and whatnot. For the record, If I invite you to
my house for a party, and the invitation says BYOB, which it wouldn't,
but I'm just saying, I'd rather that you bring a brown bag of fo'teez
than Charles Shaw, plus it would cost less anyway.

Update: Better yet, why not go for Bum Wine? Even cheaper than
Charles Shaw, offering a heady bouquet with crack-whore insouciance
and subtle drainpipe undertones. (Thanks, Eli the
Bearded!)BoingBoing tribe on Tribe.net turns 300

11/06/2003 11:10 AMA few weeks back, BoingBoing reader Pauly M. and friends created a
"BoingBoing tribe" at the online social networking site
Tribe.net to "further the banter and
chitchat that goes along with boingboing." The group appears to be
growing, and just passed the 300-member mark.

Users care about data, not software
09/25/2004 07:54 AMA couple of weeks ago I wrote an article explaining how to migrate
your email and addressbook from Ximian Evolution to Mozilla
Thunderbird. You might think that this is a straightforward operation,
but it isn't. The tools and instructions are below the standards set
by other modules in the same programs. Somewhere in the midst of the
ordeal, I asked myself why I was going to all this trouble. In a
moment of clarity, the answer hit me: users don't care about software,
they care about data. And any free software developer who doesn't
grasp the significance of that fact runs the risk of failure.

Tribe 3.0
Tribe 3.0
06/22/2005 02:41 AMTribe.net is now almost two years old and I've been there most of
the way - trying to get them to provide the kind of features that
they're now finally delivering.
Blogging, customization, RSS feeds, privacy access controls - even
your own URL. It's all there - live right now.
Lots of
people are starting to notice -
too.
Maybe this will put Tribe back up on the top of the SNS heap. Now
they just gotta figure out how to make money.
:-)
Peter Caputa has even extrapolated that this new approach-
could put money into BLOGGERS pockets. Hmmmmm.

06/20/2004 05:18 AMI'm playing with Tribecaster, a new Tribe.net feature that lets you display

New Tribe.net appearing soon
06/06/2005 12:13 AMSo I've been workign with Tribe.net on their new container wrapper
technology. Taken in the light of Goog
le's recent Fusion announcement - it's apropos that I announce
that we're having a CONTEST!
Best new usage of this container technology wins $1,500. And the
contestants themselves will vote on who's got the shit. The pah-yah.
The coolio-icious-ist.
We're getting ready to do the voting - so all your peeps out there
(you know who you are) get your sexy containers in a row - cause it's
voting time!
Customization is a crucial ingredient to the DLA formula. Humans
want to make things fit to THEIR tastes and environment. We've known
this for years - ever sice the days of "personalization".
So having a compelling, customizable environment is a requirement
for playing in the DLA space. Tribe has set a new standard for
this.
More on this later.
