Other World Computing (OWC) and Newer Technology Inc. on Tuesday announced a new "ultra high-capacity" Lithium-Polymer battery designed to work as a replacement for batteries in all first- and second-generation iPod. The companies said the new 2100mAh battery has 70 percent more charge than standard Apple stock batteries do. The battery costs US$39.95. Non-scratching installation tools and a detailed instruction manual are also included.

High-capacity DVDs (Digital Video Disks) that use blue laser technology may soon be available to information technology professionals. Blue laser DVD-RW (rewritable) disks are expected by Sony in the U.S. as early as this June. The disks will store 23GB of data and the drives will initially be connected by SCSI or USB 2.0 interfaces. The expected cost of the first models is between $2,500 and $3,000; however, fast price drops should follow.

As usual, there were a lot of PowerBooks at this conference. Interestingly, Esther Dyson, Lawrence Lessig, Bruce Sterling and I were the only people I noticed who had stickers on our PowerBooks. Other people who I know who have stickers on their PowerBooks are Mena Trott and Cory Doctorow. I wonder what this means? What do those of us who are willing to vandalize our pristine PowerBooks with stickers have in common?

Anyway, just an observation...
