iMac G3 computers.
The upgrade replaces the original G3 CPU with a G4 CPU operating at
550 MHz and doubles the backside cache from 512k to 1 full MB,
resulting in a 3 to 4 times boost in speed & performance. After the
upgrade, the machine will be able to run programs it could not run
before, including GarageBand, iChat AV with iSight, and others. The
upgrade is 100% compatible with OS 9 and X, and is warranted for one
year.

Apple iMacs equipped with slot-loading optical drives. The US$199.95
upgrade replaced the iMac's existing CPU with a Motorola 7410 CPU

replaces the internal tray-loading drives found in Apple's older,
white-clad iBook systems, and works with both 12-inch and 14-inch
screen-equipped models. The US$199 drive is available for installation
by MCE and MCE-authorized service centers.

the PX-716UF, a new external optical drive compatible with the Mac
that can write to 8x-rated DVD-R and DVD+R media at up to 16x. The
drive can burn dual-layer DVD+R media at up to 4x, and can also burn
DVD+RW at 8x, DVD-RW at 4X, CD-R at 48x and CD-RW at 24x. It comes
with USB 2.0 and FireWire interfaces and features an 8MB buffer and
features Buffer Underrun Proof Technology. It also comes with Roxio
Toast Lite versions 5 and 6. The PX-716UF costs US$239. Plextor's Web
site hadn't been updated with information on the new drive as
MacCentral posted this article.

features one button that activates Dantz Retrospect Express and
performs a data back-up based on the user's pre-selected preferences.
The OneTouch II features FireWire and USB 2.0 interfaces, 7200 rpm
with a 16MB cache, 250GB (US$329.95) or 300GB ($379.95) capacities,
DriveLock for password-protecting its contents, the ability to use it
as a boot drive and more. Maxtor noted that additional drive
capacities will be rolled out later in the year. System requirements
call for Mac OS X v10.1.2, v10.2.4 or v10.3 or higher with 128MB
RAM.

Kanguru Mini Drive, a flash-based USB 2.0 device that the company says
is almost 25 percent smaller than its Micro Drive. Less than three
inches long, the Mini Drive is available in four storage capacities:
128MB (US$29.95), 256MB ($39.95), 512MB ($69.95) and 1GB ($119.95). A
product page was not available on the Kanguru Web site as MacCentral
posted this article, but a company representative said that it will be
up later in the week.

drive, the
Cigar
HD20, a 1.8-inch hard drive with a USB 2.0 interface and 20GB of
storage capacity. With its magnesium alloy casing, the US$199 Cigar
HD20 is approximately the size of an iPod and weighs 2.8 ounces. The
hard drive spins at 4200RPM and it draws power from a USB port. Soyo's
Web page for the product lists the inclusion of
compression/decompression software as well as e-mail sending and
receiving capabilities and security features, but a company
representative told MacCentral that none of those items currently ship
with the drive, although they could be added at a later date. He was
unsure if they will be compatible with Mac OS X. The Cigar HD20 comes
with a USB 2.0 cable and a soft carrying case.
