Phipps Snubbed?

Phipps Snubbed? 03/13/2003 10:14 AM

Scoble reports that Simon Phipps is feeling persecuted.  I saw the Phipps post, too, but couldn't decide what to make of it.  I've had Phipps direct similar allegations at me, in my opinion quite unfairly, so I hesitate to judge this latest tizzy without hearing from any of the others involved.

On the other hand, maybe Phipps wasn't so unfair with me.  The "how evil are you?" test tells me:

How evil are you?

Orkut, Google and Privacy 02/14/2004 05:25 PM
If I understand this correctly, Google can now link my name and personal information to all of the Google Web searches I do (or may have done, as long as the cookie on my computer has been there, prior to signing up). This is totally outrageous. A company PR person said she'd look into it. I'll let you know what she says.

This definitely goes under the category of Life on Other Planets. Anyone who thinks that what Google is doing is inherently more evil than what happens at any brick and mortar library must have been watching ‘The Matrix’ a few too many times. The author, Elinor Mills, seems to think that some horrific breach of privacy is involved. No doubt she never visits real libraries, with their card files full of personally identifiable customer lists… Direct and Related Links for 'Privacy issues with Google library search? Not!'

In the last week there has been a sustained deluge of criticism over Googles new Gmail system. At issue is the proposed electronic reading of third party email (those that do not subscribe to the service or agree with terms of service). The result has been Google mail being blocked already, proposed legislative action in California, and the greatest sustained outcry against Google ever.
