Griffin Technology Inc. has created a new iTrip mini FM transmitter for iPod mini users. The iTrip mini works the same as its predecessor for the larger iPod: It plugs into the top of the iPod mini and transmits an FM signal that you can play back on any FM receiver within range, enabling you to play your iPod's music on nearby stereo receivers in homes, cars, hotel rooms and elsewhere. The iTrip mini works without batteries and can be tuned to any FM frequency. The iTrip mini is expected to ship in July and is available for pre-order for US$39.99.

Griffin Technology on Friday announced that it is shipping its iTrip mini, an FM transmitter designed to work with the iPod mini. The US$39.99 device attaches to the top of the iPod mini and enables users to play their music through nearby FM receivers in cars, homes and elsewhere. The iTrip mini can broadcast on any available frequency, and is tuned from the iPod mini itself. It uses no batteries, drawing power from the iPod mini, and powers itself off automatically when not in use. When Griffin first announced the iTrip mini they said it would ship in July, so this news comes a month earlier than expected.

itrip_mini_1.jpg imageGood news for everyone that pre-ordered an iTrip mini, the FM transmitter from Griffin Technology that is designed specifically to work with the iPod mini -- it's shipping a month early. How often does that happen? Well, I mean, I guess there was that time when the solids residue from that batch of 5,6-MeO-MIPT recrystallized faster than we expected from the EtOAc/hexane, but I guess, yeah, that was sort of a different trip altogether.

Griffin Technology Inc. on Thursday announced the release of their AirClick Remote for iPod and iPod mini, a remote control designed, as you might have guessed, to work with Apple's iPod and iPod mini. The AirClick Remote is different from most iPod remote controls because it works using Radio Frequency (RF) technology instead of infrared, so it doesn't require a line of sight to the iPod and can operate up to 60 feet away, according to Griffin. It's shipping now for US$39.99.

iTrip mini Available for Pre-order 06/02/2004 08:56 AM

prod_itrip_mini.jpg imageLooks like Griffin Technology has released a version of the iTrip specifically for the iPod mini which they're calling, unsurprisingly, the 'iTrip mini.' The iTrip is an FM transmitter for the iPod which lets you broadcast to pretty much any FM station you want via a sometimes kludgey 'frequencies as songs' interface. No matching colors, though, as the iTrip mini will only come in white, topping your mini like a stick of deodorant. Still, I have an iTrip for my iPod, and besides the aforementioned interface weirdness, it definitely gets the job done. Griffin is taking pre-orders now for $40 and expects to ship in July.

The transmitter broadcasts your music on any FM frequency on your car stereo, with a backlit display that shows which frequency is in use, while the charger keeps your iPod's battery at full capacity. The RoadTrip plugs into any 12-volt outlet or cigarette lighter in your car and its transmitter unit can be removed and plugged into a USB port on your computer, enabling music broadcast from it to any nearby FM stereo. Griffin has left the top of the US$79.99 device open for use with other iPod accessories, which means RoadTrip isn't compatible with the 1G and 2G iPods that have FireWire ports on top.

JTT iCue FM Transmitter

JTT iCue FM Transmitter 08/09/2004 10:01 PM

imageJTT's "iCue" FM transmitter is pretty straightforward. It's so straightforward, in fact, basically all of the improvements are visible in the image at the right. Yes, it's here and it's clear - the headphone cable and batteries are visible inside of the unit through the transparant blue plastic cover.

One "feature" that struck me as odd about this transmitter is how it can only change between four different frequencies, all on the 88MHz band. Why? That sucks! It also claims to have a 10-meter range, though if my experience with other products has taught me anything, it gets close to useless around 1-meter.

Grand Central Transmitter Theories

Grand Central Transmitter Theories 08/31/2004 06:03 AM

Reader Morgan writes:

After reading about the Grand Central setups on Gizmodo I decided to take a look around when I passed through Grand Central on my way home tonight. First off, they're scattered all over the main concourse (one over track 27 and several along the departure boards were the most visible).

Risking a Homeland Security smackdown, I decided to ask some police standing around about them, and if they were indeed, cellular relays. After a studying look and pause the MTA officer said, "I have no idea what they are" and turned away. Eventually I found a Customer Service guy who after a few, "Why are you asking?" and, "I'm not supposed to say anythings" divulged that they were cameras.

Altough I wasn't about to take any photos after flagging myself as the curious type, I noticed that there wasn't any visible lens on the device but there was something resembling a motion detector. Perhaps some kind of IR motion tracker?

More conjecture after the link.
