Three New Plasma TVs from JVC
08/19/2004 03:13 PM
NEC JVC has three new high-definition plasma
televisions coming out - two 42-inch models and a 50-inch. One of the
42-inchers, the GD-V422PCE, produces over a billion colors, which
should make for a very nice, rich looking picture. They all are nice,
of course, as far as plasma goes, plus each is capable of displaying a
regular XGA source (1,024 by 760 pixels) if you wanted to use them as
a giant monitor. Prices aren't announced yet, but I'd expect something
in the $6,000 - 7,000 range for the 42-inch models, and way more than
that for the 50.

[Bryant] Ayala of Bondurant [Iowa] said he noticed Monday night

purchased plasma screen.
A Web site called PlasmaTVBuyingGuide.com said that images can be
burned into plasma TV screens, particularly when the image is
displayed for more than a few minutes at a time. The problem is more
common during the first 200 hours of use, according to the site.
Remember that this is why screensavers moved around originally

04/06/2005 03:21 PM
Panasonic has introduced three new plasma and six new LCD
TVs in Japan, all of which are in the VIERA line. Scheduled to be
released on May 1st, the plasmas will be available in 50, 42 and 37
inch sizes, and the LCDs in 32, 26, 23 and 19 inch sizes. The most
expensive set is 650,000 yen, and the cheapest 160,000 yen —
I'll let you guess which models those correspond to. A point of
interest for the plasma panels is the new "PEAKS" driver, resulting in
a pretty nice 3,000:1 contrast ratio. There wasn't any mention of
PEAKS being used on the LCDs. Also, the commercial image character for
the new VIERAs will be Koyuki (of "Last Samurai" fame).

are undoubtedly Calypso's C1250i, which you may recall them unveiling
to some skepticism back in May, and from the looks of it, China
Telecom will be building out a network of WiFi hotspots for the phones
to access for Voice over IP and video phone calls. Though they have
yet to demonstrate it, Calypso is promising that switching between
cellular and WiFi networks will be "seamless" (we'll believe it when
we see it). To get around the problem of there not being enough WiFi
hotspots to make calls from, Calypso says there will be a program of
rebates for phone subscribers who open up their wireless access points

Now
04/22/2004 01:25 PMNY Times: China Agrees to Postpone Wireless Plan. China agreed on
Wednesday to give up a plan to impose its own standard for wireless
technology, essentially agreeing to join the rest of the world rather
than dividing it up.
This is good news. China's push
for its own standards in a variety of areas is understandable, but the
wireless move was blatant protectionism.
But don't imagine that China is giving up on its wish to make its own
destiny, and to stop paying what amount to taxes to the Intels,
Microsofts and other big U.S., Japanese and European companies in all
areas of technology. That's a reasonable goal for any nation.
