Something needs to capture way more channels of
information about you than you normally bother paying conscious
attention to. At least not at the same time. What people have been
saying around you recently; what clothes you're wearing; what's on
your bookshelf; all the people you know; all the subjects you're
interested in; all the projects you're working on. And something needs
to be matching all these items with other people's items, and items in
your surroundings, as a background process.

I just wonder if that's called an aggregator or not - 'cause it's more
than aggregation.
We're matching up gamers at 1UP.com - not just their game
collections, but also matching wishes to trade lists, what games they
wanna play and when.
But certainly storing and doing something with all this stuff - is
what digital lfiestyle
aggregation is all about. That's why 1UP.com is starting to show
what's possible.

tp://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~sanders/graphtheory/harary.htmlGraph theory is widely used in computer science, engineering
and of course, mathematics. Wikipedia offers this definition and
overview of Graph Theory (1). This next website from Mega-Math (2)
reviews some of the Vocabulary of Graphs and highlights some
applications for graph theory, such as the design of computer systems
and games. Some additional applications for Graph Theory are discussed
in this more technical book called Graph Theory with Applications (3).
This website from Georgia Tech (4) discusses a proof that allows a
user to create a map of the U.S. using just four colors. For a more
involved explanation of Graph Theory, see this Graph Theory book by
Reinhard Diestel (5). On this next website (6), Christopher P. Mawata
of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga offers a collection of
Graph Theory Lessons for educators. The final website provides a short
biography of a key figure in Graph Theory who recently passed away,
Frank Harary (7). [From The NSDL Scout Report for Math, Engineering,

"A theory that can't predict anything is not a scientific
theory," Woit says. That would be string theory, which was going
to be the theory of everything, but apparently can't even agree how
many dimensions there are. "Those who dabble in
alternate-universe speculations might be just modern versions of '16th
century theologians (who) speculated that spirits and angels emerge
from the extra-dimensional universe,' says
Krauss, who is also an outspoken foe of creationist teaching in
schools."

03/22/2005 05:09 PMTheory of Computing (ToC)http://theoryofcomputing.org/
Theory of Computing (ToC) is a new Open Access online
journal dedicated to the widest dissemination, free of charge, of high
quality research papers in all areas of Theoretical Computer Science.
The journal will not differ from the best existing publications in its
commitment to and method of peer review to ensure the highest quality.
The scientific content of ToC is guaranteed by a world-class editorial
board. Following the model of the highly successful Electronic Journal
of Combinatorics, ToC is an all-volunteer operation. The key
difference between ToC and existing publications (paper as well as
electronic) in the areas covered by ToC is its commitment to free
access. We believe that the Theory community can no longer turn a
blind eye to the plight of CS libraries, around the country and around
the world. Publisher: University of Chicago Department of Computer

22 performance on Vermont Public Radio's Switchboard program raised a
few eyebrows.
I think it was all done to get oil, Jeffords
said of invading Iraq.
And the loss of life that we had, and the
cost of it, was to me just a re-election move, and they're going to
try to live off it. Probably start another war, wouldn't be surprised,
next year. Probably in Iran, said Jeffords, echoing
Seymour
Hersch's words from January.

Many Worlds theory invalidated
Many Worlds theory invalidated
04/26/2004 11:51 AMKathryn Cramer breaks the story on a to-be-presented Harvard talk on
an experiment that appears to invalidate both the "Many Worlds" and
"Copenhagen" theories of quantum mechanics. Kathryn is the daughter of
John Cramer, a physicist whose "Transactional Interpretetation"
hypothesis is the only one left intact by the experiment's findings.
It has been widely accepted that the rival interpretations of quantum
mechanics, e.g., the Copenhagen Interpretation, the Many-Worlds
Interpretation, and my father John Cramer's Transactional
Interpretation, cannot be distinguished or falsified by experiment,
because the experimental predictions come from the formalism that all
such interpretations describe. However, the Afshar Experiment
demonstrates in an interaction-free way that there is a loophole in
this logic: if the interpretation is inconsistent with the formalism,
then it can be falsified. In particular, the Afshar Experiment
falsifies the Copenhagen Interpretation, which requires the absence of
interference in a particle-type measurement. It also falsifies the
Many-Worlds Interpretation which tells us to expect no interference
between "worlds" that are physically distinguishable, e.g., that
correspond to the photon's passage through one pinhole or the other.

Theory of Everything radio show
04/06/2005 05:27 PMMark Frauenfelder:
For the last couple of months, I've been listening to a terrific new
radio program, called The Theory of Everything, produced and hosted by
Benjamen Walker. It plays every week on selected radio stations, but
Benjamen has thoughtfully provided a complete archive of the shows in
MP3 format on his site. Some of the programs have been about the CIA
funding the absract expressionist movement, hopeless infatuation,
people who obsess over becoming a celebrity, and a skinhead funeral.
If The Theory of Everything sounds similar to another one of my
favorite radio programs, This American Life, well, it is -- but it's a
little quirkier and appeals to my interests even more, and I really
like the sound of Benjamen's voice. Load up your MP3 player and enjoy.

Cyber Terrorism Is Just A Theory
Cyber Terrorism Is Just A Theory
11/11/2003 05:50 AMFor years, when many folks were predicting the imminent end of
civilization due to cyber-terrorism, there were plenty of others who
believed the actual risks associated with cyber terrorism are very
low, compared to other threats that are out there. That's not to say
it couldn't cause hassles - but the predictions of all out destruction
seemed to go a bit far. Now Gartner has gotten into the game and is
saying that
cyber terrorism is much more of a theory than
reality. Basically, though, they're saying that no one has
initiated any online attacks
with terror as their motive. They
admit that other attacks have caused real damage - but with a
different motive. In other words, they're making it all a big
semantic debate, rather than a substantive one. However, the end
result is still the same: you should try to make sure your own systems
are secure, but don't freak out every time someone mentions "cyber
terrorism".
