Survey: Spam will beat Bill Gates
04/30/2004 09:10 AMA survey of IT security professionals conducted at the Infosecurity
show in London this week revealed that more than 80 percent of people
do not think that Bill Gates' pledge to eliminate spam within two
years is realistic. In June 2003, the Microsoft chairman called for
cooperation between government and corporations to fight the spammers.
But Gates was branded hypocritical by anti-spam organizations because
they said that Microsoft was only focusing on reducing the amount of
spam received, rather than the spam sent by its users and servers.

It's Time To Fight Spam... By Speaking
Up?
12/15/2003 09:21 PMOver at InternetWeek, editor Bob Evans is reviewing a number of recent
spam stories and saying that we need to fight back against spam. Hmm.
As if we haven't been doing that already? Just how are we supposed
to fight back? By
complaining as
loudly as possible. At least that appears to be the
recommendation. Again, I think plenty of people have been complaining
pretty damn loudly for quite some time, and all it's gotten us is a
bunch of bad legislation that is only going to make the problem worse.
Not that we shouldn't stop complaining (especially about these bad
laws), but complaining doesn't do much without more proactive
suggestions for solutions.

More Rules On How To Spam... This Time
For Porn Spammers
01/29/2004 02:49 AMWait just a second. A month ago, we were hearing stories from our
elected officials about how spam was supposed to be dead dead dead by
now, thanks to the "CAN SPAM" law which would make it illegal to spam.
Of course, as we all know, the law wasn't really intended to stop
spam at all, but rather to give instructions on how you
can
spam. Further evidence of that comes today as the FTC is actually
releasing new rules for porn spammers
on how to spam. They're telling them they need to include a
special label. In other words, they can just keep on spamming - as
long as they include that one little label. Great way to "stop" spam,
huh?
