MacCentral - Apple on Monday issued a security update for Mac OS X addressing a number of issues found in the operating system. Security Update 2004-06-07 fixes all of the potential risks reported by security firms over the past few weeks, according to Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

MacCentral - In addition to Mac OS X v10.3.5, Apple on Monday released Security Update 2004-08-09, which corrects a recently identified issue related to a library used to show PNG format graphics. The library is used on several computing platforms and by several applications, including Apple's own Safari Web browser. Apple provided only cursory information with this security update, but indicated that Security Update 2004-08-09 contains an updated libpng library.

MacCentral - Microsoft Corp. on Tuesday offered details about the compatibility of its Mac products with Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger." Apple announced earlier on Tuesday that Tiger will ship on Friday, April 29, 2005. According to Microsoft, it has worked closely with Apple to make sure that Office 2004 works with new Tiger technologies, and "will conduct final testing" on its Virtual PC product when Tiger is available.

Shareware developer, Arlo Rose, released an update to Konfabulator, a Widget-based JavaScript runtime engine, bringing the current version to 1.6.1. The update fixes many user reported bugs including a problem with playing sounds causing some Widgets to disappear; issue with "Hide" option of "Startup Items" control panel making Konfabulator menu inoperable; problems with certain Contextual Menu plug-ins; and more. The update is free to registered users; a single user license costs US$25. Konfabulator requires Mac OS X 10.2.8 or higher, although Mac OS X 10.3 is recommended.
