Square Hair
Square Hair08/27/2004 02:07 PM Somehow I had the idea that there was a certain air of being hip and
with-it about this whole blogging thang. But look at the official
Republican Convention designates: you can get a good gig and still be
a honkey suit with Fifties
hair. Who knew? (Actually, scroll down a bit, they have some
real people too.)
Square Feet
Square Feet01/19/2004 03:56 AM [This is part of a series of posts on the home buying process I'm
going thru. To see the full set, visit the house category archives.]
After the place I saw the other day, I got to wondering how big my
apartment really is. The place I saw was in the 1,500 square feet
ballpark and just didn't feel very big. It seemed that I had quite a
bit more room in my old 1,400 square foot house back in...

Market square and the tram station next to it. I love the old
markets and really hope they resist being replaced with some concrete
and glass modern atrocity.
We
don't know why, exactly (an M&M's promotion, we heard), but there's an
X-Wing in Times Square. I might dork out and try to take a picture
with me in the frame, but I'm not sure the train is running to
Hatchi Toshi Station. Something about some power
converters.
I mean 'do.' There is no try. (Thanks Catherine Punk for the
photo and Dave for the heads-up.)

4400 Square Miles of EVDO
4400 Square Miles of EVDO12/19/2004 03:18 PM Verizon Wireless says they've blanketed Los Angeles and environs: Its
BroadbandAccess service, its name for the package of 1xEv-DO they've
rolled out (or just plain EVDO if you want to be simpler about it)
fills Los Angeles County, parts of Riverside County and San Bernadino
County, and most of San Diego and Orange County. Overall, about 4400
square miles of coverage across populated SoCal. This announcement is
interesting because it was never entirely clear how much of a
metropolitan area that Verizon intended to install EVDO
throughout--100 percent? 95 percent? The city but not the suburbs?
Their work here is a clear signal that they're talking metro
deployment, not urban deployment....
Montreal's Westmount Square gets Hot Zone
Montreal's Westmount Square gets Hot Zone05/18/2004 06:18 PM Vivato gear enabled a hot zone in Montreal that otherwise would have
been much more difficult to build: Tadaa Wireless, a wireless ISP,
hired Summit Technologies, a solutions provider, to build a network
covering three 22-storey skyscrapers in Montreal. Summit figured that
it would take 160 traditional APs to do the job. Using Vivato gear
instead, Summit built the network with three Vivato base stations and
six Vivato APs. The network covers a 1.5 mile radius and is available
to 1,500 users. Vivato has had some troubles recently with an overhaul
of its management team but if it can focus on this niche of unusual
deployments it may do well. There's probably not a shortage of
historic buildings or other sites that may be difficult to wire....

esting article about how you can make a bike that rides completely

me as a good metaphor for finding a new way around an old problem.

Boeing, Airbus Square Off on In-Flight Data07/22/2004 04:23 PM Two stories converge on Connexion by Boeing and Airbus's future
in-flight data plans: Tenzing is folding itself into a firm jointly
owned by itself, Airbus, and SITA, a Dutch-based air-phone operator.
Tenzing will keep employees in Seattle, and SITA will be the majority
shareholder. Tenzing will have the advantage now of this direct
relationship with Airbus, which has begun to build Wi-Fi into planes
as a standard option. The new company will also focus on in-flight
wireless calls, the third firm to announce its intentions to offer or
to test out this capability in the last few weeks. The new firm
expects to offer that service in 2006 starting on intra-Europe flights
where SITA already offers its more conventional in-flight phone
service, while their high-speed data offering is still on track
starting in 2005. Meanwhile, Connexion by Boeing signed Siemens as a
customer, which means that Siemens employees will have easier, and
presumably cheaper, access to the service. Connexion is installed in
just one Lufthansa plane so far, which flies from Munich to Los
Angeles non-stop, but Lufthansa and several other airlines continue
their commitment to build out their long-haul fleets.... Grok Description matches for Square One TV GrokA matches for Square One TV
