01/10/2004 06:08 AMMacMerc.com has been working the Mac web for 2 years now but because
of the fact that our staff are all professional Mac users (aka
Mac
Mercenaries), none of us has actually had the time off to attend a
MacWorld in all that time... that is until now.
Our own James Huff, has returned with
a very brief blog post that links to his gallery

Computex: Inspired by Apple
06/06/2005 12:12 AMTAIPEI -- If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery then Apple
Computer executives walking around the Computex show in Taipei this
week should be feeling pretty good. Several products were on display
from local Taiwanese vendors that, while perhaps not exact copies of
Apple products, were surely inspired by them.

The Register's
Tony Smith has even more about all the personal video players that are
popping up at Computex, including this very iPodesque X-Fram II from
TwinMOS (also sold as the Mobinote 7010) with a 7-inch, 754 x 480 LCD
and a 20GB 1.8-inch hard drive. They are even calling its bundled app
'DVX-POD,' just so you don't mistake their intentions. It's got an AV
port for on-the-fly MPEG4 encoding (although only at 352 x 288) and
can play back a wealth of formats, including Divx 3/4/5 (although no
word for XviD), WMV, and Quicktime 6, which is a rarity.

Apparently
all that Tungsten T5 business over at 1src was a hoax, and the site's
editor Joel (no relation) seems to be taking it a little hard. Buck
up, camper. You got duped. It happens. We ain't mad at you.
In my opinion, it's more fun to run the images and have people tear
them apart, anyway. It's like open-source reporting; a thousand eyes
are going to be able to find the flaws in the fake images a lot better
than one (laser accident).
