Google's Gmail adds Safari to supported
browsers
06/03/2004 03:10 PM

Beta testers for Google's upcoming Gmail service, which will offer 1GB of storage and leverage the company's search technology to organize e-mail, have been informed that Safari 1.2.1 is now on the list of compatible browsers. Gmail also currently supports Netscape 7.1 or higher, Mozilla 1.4 or higher and Mozilla Firefox 0.8 or higher on the Macintosh. Google can't say when the service will end Beta testing and become widely available, but the company does note that it hopes to add to Gmail's list of supported browsers "in the near future."

NetShred X 3.5 adds 2 new browsers,
shreds Safari icons
05/19/2004 10:37 AM
Mireth Technology's NetShred X has been updated to version 3.5. The software automatically writes over and destroys your Web browser's cache, history and download cache, as well as your e-mail trash and other potentially sensitive files. The new version adds support for Firefox and Camino Web browsers and also shreds the contents of Safari's icons folder, which contains cached items. NetShred X 3.5 is US$19.95, but this is a free upgrade for existing users. A demo that deletes files, instead of overwriting them, is available for download from the Mireth Web site. System requirements call for a G3 or better processor and Mac OS X v10.1 or higher. Mireth notes that NetShred X doesn't work with Outlook Express or Entourage, due to Microsoft's use of proprietary file formats with both applications.
