Top Tip: Primary or logical?
Top Tip: Primary or logical?
01/27/2004 02:53 PMI am thinking of installing 3 hardrives ( I have onboard raid that I
am using as extra IDE ) my question . Is there hard and fast rule as
to how many of the hardrives should be primary or logical ( I know
that the boot partition has to be primary and active) or could anyone
suggest a website where this subject is dicussed in detail.
Why VBScript Logical Operators Aren't
Why VBScript Logical Operators Aren't
07/15/2004 04:59 PMIf you've ever lost a monitor to VBScript (from frustrated
punching, mine has dents), Eric Lippert provides some solace in that
there's at least a reason why it behaves that way.
In JScript you can do something like this:
if (blah != null && blah.frob == 123)
and it works just fine. But in VBScript
If (Not Blah Is Nothing) And (Blah.Frob = 123) Then
Then if Blah actually is Nothing, this still crashes and dies, whereas
JScript does not. What the heck is going on here?
What's going on is that VBScript is not logical. VBScript is bitwise.
All the so-called logical operators work on numbers, not on Boolean
values! Not, And, Or, XOr, Eqv and Imp all convert their arguments to
four-byte integers, do the logical operation on each pair of bits in
the integers, and return the result. If True is -1 and False is 0 then
everything works out, because -1 has all its bits turned on and 0 has
all its bits turned off. But if other numbers get in there, all bets
are off.
I didn't say it was a good reason. I just said it was a reason.

04/11/2005 03:37 AMLogical Datacenter Designer is used to create models that describe the
policies and logical structure of a datacenter, including servers,
firewalls, communication paths, security constraints, and other
configuration requirements that affect the deployment of application
systems into a datacenter. Logical Datacenter Designer is integrated
with other Distributed System Designers, included in Visual Studio
Team System. All of the designers leverage a common XML-based metafile
format known as the System Definition Model (SDM). Logical Datacenter
Designer is an effective tool for communicating between IT
professionals and system architects.

Apple to become mobile carrier? Next
logical step?
12/28/2004 07:19 AMAccording to this piece at CanalPDA.com, Albert Slope, VP of Apple's
Mobile Platforms and Services business unit, has confirmed that Apple
plans to build its own mobile carrier.
CanalPDA.com quotes Slope as saying, "creating our own mobile carrier
is the next logical step in our strategy of providing the Apple
experience to the users of our products. We believe that existing
carriers are not offering the flexibility not the performance
consumers deserve, so we have decided to move forward, providing
cellphone users a full, personal communications and information
environent, with the user-friendliness that has become synonymous with
Apple's products and services."
With talk of deals with Motorola to produce iPhones, this comes as
little surprise. But what does come as a surprise that CanalPDA got
such an exclusive. Is it true? Who knows. That's why they call them
rumors.

U.S. Government Spurned Peace Talks Before the War With Iraq -
A possible negotiated peace deal was laid out in a heavily

been told, but a top former Pentagon adviser says he was ordered not
to pursue the deal, ABCNews has learned.
Baghdad Scrambled to Offer Deal to U.S.
as War Loomed -
As American soldiers massed on the Iraqi
border in March and diplomats argued about war, an influential adviser
to the Pentagon received a secret message from a Lebanese-American
businessman: Saddam Hussein wanted to make a deal. Iraqi officials,
including the chief of the Iraqi Intelligence Service, had told the
businessman that they wanted Washington to know that Iraq no longer
had weapons of mass destruction, and they offered to allow American
troops and experts to conduct an independent search. The businessman
said in an interview that the Iraqis also offered to hand over a man
accused of being involved in the World Trade Center bombing in 1993
who was being held in Baghdad. At one point, he said, the Iraqis
pledged to hold elections. DeepDiscountDVD 20% off Deal

iPod + HP = No big deal
iPod + HP = No big deal
08/28/2004 11:08 AMWhen Apple and Hewlett Packard teamed up in January to create and
HP-branded version of the iPod, I, like so many others, was intrigued
by the possibilities. For one, the pact represented the first of its
kind for Apple and pushed the limits of cloning and imitating — here
wasn’t a mere replica, it was a slightly modified version of the real
thing. Secondly, at a time when the iPod was just beginning to take
off, and the iPod mini was merely a preorder in hundreds of thousands
of Inboxes, a partnership with a major distributor had far-reaching
promise for both investors in the States and consumers overseas.
Plus, it was blue.
But now that it's here, it seems that the Apple iPod from HP, as it's
been officially dubbed, doesn’t offer much in the way of prospect.
Like a rookie who pitched his best game in preseason play, the new
incarnation of the iPod seems like dead weight for Apple, while HP can
ride the bench and collect its bloated paycheck.
Granted, the HP Tattoos are pretty cool, but they do little to enhance
the overall iPod experience — nor does the new packaging, USB 2.0
recommendation or Windows-like set-up poster. As far as I can tell,
the iPod itself is identical to Apple’s offering, released five weeks
later and in a new box.
And it's white.
I mean, didn’t Dell sell iPod last year? I fail to see how this is
much different.
Apparently, investors agree, as Apple’s stock dropped slightly, HP’s
shares creeped up somewhat, and what was eagerly anticipated just 24
hours earlier turned into all hype and no substance.
So, HP is selling iPods with its name engraved on the back… big deal.
Maybe I'm missing something, or maybe I’m just being cynical, but I
just don’t see the point. Now, Apple is making less per unit, and
stands to lose brand recognition to HP. Selling the same iPod in a
different box just doesn’t seem to offer anything positive for Apple.
It all seemed so promising nearly eight months ago, but after more
than a million sales, new stores, new models and a cover article in
Newsweek, there doesn’t seem to be much punch behind the HP launch.
It could be me, but I think the iPod is one thing Apple should keep to
itself.
