After playing around with the new iTrip mini, the FM
broadcasting accessory for the iPod our little minds got working on
some ideas. We thought we might be able to make the range of Griffinâ€
™s iTrip mini a little better if took it apart and exposed the
antenna, turns out we could. And then we thought, hey- we could use a
couple iPods to broadcast something we wanted to get out there,
perhaps not “should” that is, but could. So that was our
motivation, and here’s the How To.

Griffin's stated range for the iTrip is a little inaccurate: I once
left my iPod playing over the radio in the office, got in my car and
drove out of the parking lot, around the corner and down the street.
The signal petered out at about 150 feet. This is through the walls of
my office and several intervening buildings!
I've been running around for the past several months with this bumper
sticker on my car. It's an ink-jet job and as you can see, it's
getting a little faded. I figure that anyone that can read the bumper
sticker-- on the I-5, at a stop light-- if intrigued could tune in and
listen to whatever I'm listening to. No, I don't take requests.
T-Shirt coming soon!

TimeTrax will be launching a raft of new products this
week at CES, including this version of their XM satellite radio
reciever and software that will directly copy songs recorded from the
XM service onto a user's iPod. While it's somewhat impossible to, say,
pull an entire album down from XM, it's still somewhat surprising
there hasn't been a big hammer on TimeTrax yet, from either XM or the
RIAA.
Other products from TimeTrax at CES will include Sirius versions of
their hardware. Ironically, no version of the TimeTrax software is
planned for the Mac.

Olympics Shut Down Online Radio Stream
Of Radio Stations
08/16/2004 02:27 PMIt appears the folks running the Olympics are so focused on
controlling (i.e., "selling") the rights to broadcast accounts of the
Olympic games that they're
forcing
some radio stations to shut down their internet streams. The
radio stations in question have regular radio broadcast rights for the
Olympics, but since they didn't pay up to internet broadcast rights,
they need to turn off their internet streams for the duration of the
games. Considering the fact that it appears that no one is actually
attending these games in person, apparently, the Olympics has decided
that they're going to squeeze broadcasters for every last penny. Ah,
the spirit of the games.
