System Granted Patent
06/01/2004 02:19 AMDr. Hengning Wu is awarded a US patent for the invention of a
people-oriented universal communication system. When Dr. Wu resigned
from a leading superconductor company in Denmark to look for
opportunities in Northern Virginia in 2000, he knew he would work on
something related to computer, but he did not know he would come up
with an idea that will address a fundamental problem of communication
and the internet. Identity theft, email spam, illegal music file
sharing, electronic voting fraud, and frustrating telemarketing calls,
all these problems will be solved with the people-oriented universal
communication system. The system will unify all the available physical
networks and provide a common platform for efficient e-business
solutions. [PRWEB Jun 1, 2004]

IT Managers Have Spam Under Control
IT Managers Have Spam Under Control
06/15/2004 06:24 PMA year and a half ago, we wrote about a study saying that
most
people didn't get too much spam at the office. It was mostly a
personal email account problem. Nowadays, Symantec was surprised to
find that the results are basically the same:
most people don't think
spam is a problem at work - if they're ordinary employees. The IT
staff, however, tells a very different story. To them, spam is a huge
problem. What this suggests, of course, is that the IT staff, for all
their hair pulling, is actually doing a fairly good job blocking spam
and keeping it out of employee inboxes.

08/05/2004 03:40 AMMindComet will be selling a revolutionary email security product that
does not use blacklisting, whitelising, DNS lookups, challenge
response systems, probablity ratings, or filtering of any kind - yet
it prevents 100% of spam without loosing ANY legitimate messages. This
NEW technology offers a system that is not currently in use by other
"anti-spam" products, and the product costs less to implement than
others such as brightmail, ironmail, and spamex. [PRWEB Aug 5, 2004]

More Patent Battles Coming In The
Anti-Spam World
09/14/2004 12:29 PMAn anti-spam company has
purchased
an early anti-spam patent, which they now hope to use to collect a
bit of cash from plenty of other anti-spam firms. The concept seems
ridiculously obvious: monitor email, note emails that appear to be the
same, create a signature for that email and use it to pick out other
messages that match that signature. Why this should be patentable in
the first place is unclear. In the meantime, it's just going to make
it more difficult and more expensive to use this obvious technique to
stop spam.

Patent Problem May Slow Anti-Spam
Solution
08/11/2004 10:42 PMAs if the upcoming
standar
ds battle over authenticated email wasn't enough, now someone is
claiming that
Micros
oft stole his patent-pending sender authentication concept, which
he also named CallerID for email. He's also accusing them of
trademark violation, which may be about as far as his claim can
realistically go. First off, without a granted patent, his claims are
a bit weak, but even if he got that patent, it seems pretty clear by
the fact that just about
everyone seems to be coming up with
the same idea independently that this is
hardly an original
idea. The guy in question, realizing that no lawyers seem willing to
take on his case, is planning, instead to go after lots of smaller
companies to "build up a war chest." Great. Yet another person
claiming to hold intellectual property who will now use it to sue
other companies that are actually trying to innovate and who clearly
never "stole" his ideas, but came up with them independently.
Apparently, this is what the Patent and Trademark Office consider
"innovation."

12/22/2004 01:05 AMMost companies large enough to employ a full-time communication

for targeted customer communication. In doing so, they have usually
