Noted neoconservative Fred Kaplan has a great article in Slate where he asks the question that so many others are asking:

If the administration lacks the acumen or persuasive power to deal with such familiar institutions as the U.N. Security Council or the established governments of France, Germany, Turkey, Russia, China—even Canada—then how is it going to handle Iraq's feuding opposition groups, Kurdish separatists, and myriad ethno-religious factions, to say nothing of the turbulence throughout the region?

Kaplan concludes, as do I:

It is becoming increasingly and distressingly clear that, however justified the coming war with Iraq may be, the Bush administration is in no shape—diplomatically, politically, or intellectually—to wage it or at least to settle its aftermath. It is hard to remember when, if ever, the United States has so badly handled a foreign-policy crisis or been so distrusted by so many friends and foes as a result.

I wonder what it means for such a noted neocon to come out against the Bush administration on the fundamental issue of competence. Maybe the Republican wall in front of Bush will finally crack, and Republican legislators will put their duty as citizens in front of their party loyalties. One can always hope. I highly recommend the article , even if it is in Slate.

Hi folks

Well as you can see by the prior post I have had a very trying few weeks. Being operated on in a foreign country was unnerving but I was well taken care of. With any luck my transportation will be setup to depart her tonight. Typing while prone is a chore. I am up and moving around but sitting at a desk for more than 20 minutes is painful and my Doctor wants me in a lazyboy or flat on my back for a couple more weeks. I know will cause metal detectors to go off in Airports. I am wearing a device that makes me walk like a robot as it immobilized a large section of my back.

I am appreciative though that all of my parts are moving the doctor says I am damn lucky in that 90% of people that suffer the same injury as I did never walk again so I think the man upstairs was looking out for me.

I may try and get some news up on the site before I roll nothing else to do but lay here and surf the net anyway.
