But perhaps in the real world, this note could be worth a lot more-“During the past year, Microsoft has taken a number of important steps to help curb the epidemic of junk email, which is a major headache for computer users worldwide. We’ve made significant progress, including blocking more than 95 percent of all incoming junk mail - an average of 3 billion messages a day - on Hotmail. But more work remains to be done. We’re committed to finding additional ways to counter this costly nuisance.Over the next 12 months, we will begin to introduce several additional innovative technologies and processes that should further reduce the volume of junk email reaching customers’ inboxes. Because you’ve subscribed to receive executive emails from us, I’d like to update you on what we’re doing in this area. On the Web at www.microsoft.com/execmail, I’ve posted an in-depth explanation of Microsoft’s technology vision and strategy for ending the junk email epidemic as a major problem. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read it.Thank you.Bill Gates”Now, we’ve all seen those hoax chain letters, but this came from Microsoft (as far as I can tell). Considering the content, it looks genuine. I invite you all to check it out…

brixwear_1000.jpgPodBrix, the people who sell Lego men with iPods and tiny Steve Jobs figures, are now offering the Brixwear 1000, a shirt that uses an attached magnet to hold your iPod shuffle in the hands of a PodBrix minifig silhouette. Or rather, were offering it, as the first run of 1,000 are totally sold out. It looks like it's time for someone to make a cheap pin or clasp that can be used with any shirt and see if they can kickstart a new iPod shuffle trend.

New 1.5GB Player from Teac: MP-1000

New 1.5GB Player from Teac: MP-1000 06/24/2004 09:47 AM

teac_mp1000.jpg imageDAPreview reports on a new 1.5GB hard disk-based mp3 player from Teac called the MP-1000 which looks, all things considered, remarkably uninteresting. It does play OGG Vorbis, if that's your thing, and manages to include an FM-tuner and USB 2.0 -- which is notable only because of the surprising amount of modern players that still putter along over USB 1.1. I don't think many people care about the 1.5GB players with the 4GB players so abundant, but as long as it's cheap, it might stand a chance.

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Mouse Reviewed

Logitech MX 1000 Laser Mouse Reviewed 09/22/2004 08:38 AM

mx1000-4.jpg imageWhen Logitech released its recent MX 1000 "Laser Mouse," I think a lot of use were questioning if it really was any better than a good ol' LED optical version. The problem is, there really isn't any benchmark you can use to objectively test it, either, so when Tom's Hardware says that it's the best mouse they've ever used, you sort of have to take it with a grain of salt. Not that it might not be the best mouse ever created, but you'll certainly want to try one for yourself before dropping $80 on one. The Tom's review, though, at least let's you know that it's worth considering, so I thought I'd mention it.

i-Bead 1000 1.5GB Hard Disk Player 07/09/2004 01:27 PM

ibead_1000.jpg imageSouth Korean firm i-Bead is releasing a new 1.5 gigabyte hard disk player with a built-in 65k-color screen. Although there's no word on price yet, the feature set looks nice, with a built-in FM tuner and recorder, line-in recording, text viewing (something that is missing from way too many players), and USB 2.0, as well as a variety of major audio formats. And the best news? It looks like the i-Bead 1000 will be making it to Europe and the US; previous i-Bead players have been Asia-only.
