For those of you how have been waiting for Microsoft to release the express installer for Service Pack 2 because 272MB is too much for you, the wait is now over.

Typical users of the express installer should expect a 80-90MB download, since the express installer only downloads updates for components that your computer has. This is a more reasonable size for dial-up users, and others who can't spare the bandwidth.

There is no difference in the files that are downloaded between this version and the full network install, except that the network install will contain content that your computer probably will not use. Also, it should be noted that you cannot use the express installer to create slipstream installs.

Users are cautioned to use the binary installer for Fink 0.4.1 only once on a given machine. Due to an apparent bug in Apple's Installer.app program, attempting a second installation on the same machine can result in permissions being altered in the machine's root directory, in some cases leaving the machine in a non-bootable state. If Installer.app presents you with an "Upgrade" button rather than an "Install" button when installing Fink 0.4.1, do not proceed any further! A new version of the binary installer for Fink 0.4.1 became available on November 5. The new version avoids the problem of the machine not booting, but even with the new version, users are advised to only "Install", not "Upgrade." (You can recognize the new version by its filesize of 12582912 bytes, while the old version had a filesize of 10541112 bytes.)

I have what is known as a smart home network, phone, fiber etc in every room. This house is truly wired we wanted it that way. When it came time to hook it up to the rest of the world we had a contract cable installer come in. He was not very happy with me trailing him all over the place. But when he found was having 10baseT problems and I pulled out my network analyzer he kinda opened up. He was one of the few installers that I have had that had a clue and wasn't just being paid minimum wage that had just finished a 8 hour indoc class.
